ALFONSO, MA. ELAINE L.

BSCRIM 1E

1. As volcanoes erupt, they release a combination of gases and dust into the atmosphere. Some of
them, such as ash and sulphur dioxide, have a cooling impact, because they (or the chemicals
they generate) reflect sunlight away from the planet. Others, like CO2, contribute to the
greenhouse effect and produce heat.
2. The eccentricity of the Earth's orbit, the obliquity of its axis with regard to its orbital plane, and
other factors are all included in the Milankovitch cycles. The way Earth's axis of rotation is
directed, known as precession.
3. According to the carbon dioxide theory, as the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
increases, the atmosphere becomes opaque over a wider frequency range; outgoing radiation is
trapped more effectively near the Earth's surface, and the temperature rises.
4. Human activities contribute to climate change by burning fossil fuels, emitting chemicals into the
atmosphere, reducing forest cover, and the rapid expansion of farming, development, and
industrial activities, which emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and disrupt the climate
system's balance.
5. (1) drought
(2) storms
(3) poverty and displacement
(4) loss of species
(5) hot temperatures
6. How can individuals make a significant contribution in response to climate change?
If the climate change is preventable for me, the significant contribution that individuals can make in
response to climate change is through stop causing the problems. The planet is struggling to keep
up, with rising average global temperatures and the frequency of extreme weather events
transforming ecosystems worldwide and threatening entire plant and animal species. Forests are
drying up, there is less rain and more fires, and both the North and South Pole glaciers are shrinking.
Climate change affects all of us, but in order to respond and adapt, we must first understand it.
7. Individuals should stop deforestation, stop releasing chemicals into the environment, and
conserve and protect our natural resources.
