DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Continue Breastfeeding. There is NO SUBSTITUTE to breast milk. Studies have shown that breastfeeding improves
your child’s survival and promotes healthy growth and development. During the first days and weeks after birth, you
should aim to breast-feed your baby at least 8 times in a 24-hour period. Feed your baby “on demand,” that is,
whenever the baby wakes up and shows signs of being ready to eat (feeding cues).
Expressing milk by hand:
a. Sit up and lean forward.
b. Gently massage you breast.
c. Place your fingers in C-Position, one to two inches behind the areola (Darkened skin).
d. Press back toward the chest to apply pressure behind the pools of milk.
e. Relax your fingers.
f. Continue pressing, compressing and relaxing. Alternate breast frequently.
1. Babies usually spit out a little of their feeds. Burping midway and after feeding in the upright position will prevent
this.
2. Babies need to be bathed with lukewarm water at least once a day. Choose a mild soap to use with the hair and skin.
3. Babies need to be bathed in the sun at least 30 minutes each day. The best sunlight is that which comes from 7 to
9:30 in the morning. During this basking time, it would be best to keep the baby’s clothing at a minimum to enable
exposure of a greater area of skin.
4. Daily cord care using 70% Ethanol (not Isopropyl) alcohol every 8 hours and keep dry at all times. Place diaper
below umbilical area
5. WATCH OUT for poor suck, poor activity, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and persistent jaundice. In case of emergency,
you may bring your baby to KCHC Emergency Room or to your Attending Physician.
6. FOLLOW UP WITH DRA. PALANCA ON MAY 22, 2021 @ HER CLINIC
