SYNDROMIC SURVEILLANCE

Syndromic surveillance refers to a system that enables public health authorities to stay connected with the well-being of the community in real time.
This system facilitates the swift detection of potential outbreaks and issues, aids in monitoring ongoing health concerns, and enhances situational
awareness regarding the community's health status.

OUTBREAKS
Dengue: There is a decrease in reported cases for Epi week 25 with 33 reported cases & 2 hospitalization; however, cases still remain at outbreak levels.
Epidemiological investigation continues; samples were sent to CARPHA reference laboratory to determine the type of dengue virus circulating and the
results are pending. Enhanced entomological surveillance and vector control efforts are being intensified to control and manage the situation. Increased
public education continues to sensitize the public on the issue emphasizing the need to take measures to avoid mosquito bites, eliminate breeding sites for
mosquitoes and seek immediate medical attention if ill.

Acute Respiratory Infection: There is an uptick in cases reported for Epi week 25; cases remain at outbreak levels. In addition to the many other respiratory
pathogens identified, Influenza B (Victoria lineage) continues to be identified.  Respiratory hygiene measures continue to be recommended to manage the
current situation.

COVID-19: Cases have more than doubled in Epi week 25 compared to the previous week.  We continue to urge persons to practice proper respiratory
hygiene measures and hand washing in a effort to manage the situation.
