Living things are highly grouped, meaning they contain

specialized, coordinated parts. All living organisms are made up
1 of one or more cells, which are considered the fundamental
units of life.
Life depends on an enormous number of interlocking chemical
reactions. These reactions make it possible for organisms to do
2 work—such as moving around or catching prey. Living things
must use energy and consume nutrients to carry out the
chemical reactions that sustain life.
Living organisms regulate their internal environment to
3 maintain the relatively narrow range of conditions needed for
cell function. For instance, your body temperature needs to
be kept relatively close to 98.6∘∘degreesF (37∘∘degreesC).
Living organisms undergo regulated enlargement. Individual
4 cells become larger in size, and multicellular organisms
accumulate many cells through cell division.

Known as the process in which living things make other ones,

5 usually inheriting their traits contained in the genetic
information

Living organisms show “irritability,” meaning that they react to

6 situations or changes in their environment. For instance,
people pull their hand away—fast!—from a flame;; it made
them immortal

7 Populations of living organisms can undergo this, meaning that

the genetic makeup of a population may change over time. In
some cases, this involves natural selection, in which a heritable
trait, such as darker fur color or narrower beak shape, lets
organisms survive and reproduce better in a particular
environment.
Match the level of organization of cells with the right definition. 5
marks
1. Cell 1. In plants and animals, group of cells that work together to
do a specific job.
2. Tissue
2. In an organism, structure made of two or more different
3. Organs
tissues which have a specialized function. Example: lungs.
4. Organ system
3. Group of organs that work together to do a specific
5. Organism
job. Example: digestive system

4. A living thing

5. Basic unit of structure and function in living things.
