Ang Alkansya ni Boyet

Mahirap lamang ang pamilya ni Boyet. Ang ama niyang si Mang Delfin ay isang magsasaka subalit walang
sariling lupa. Inuupahan lamang nito ang tinatamnan ng palay. Ang ina naman niyang si Aling Pacing ay simpleng
maybahay lamang. Sampung taon na si Boyet. Siya ang panganay sa kanilang apat na magkakapatid. Sa pasukan ay
nasa ika-apat na baitang na siya ng mababang paaralan.

Kapag ganitong bakasyon ay sinasamantala ni Boyet ang pagkakataon. Gumagawa siya ng alkansiyang
kawayan. Panahon ng pamumunga ng bungangkahoy sa kanilang bakuran, dahil maluwang ang kanilang bakuran ay
maraming punong namumunga. Pinipitas nila ng kanyang inay ang ay mga bunga at itinitinda iyon sa palengke.

Mabili ang kanilang mga tindang prutas. Kapag nakaubos sila ng paninda ay agad siyang binibigyan ng pera sa
kanyang inay.

“Salamat po, inay. Mayroon na naman akong panghulog sa aking alkansiya.” masayang sabi ni Boyet.

“Hayaan mo anak, bago siguro maubos ang mga bunga ng ating mga puno ay mapupuno na ang alkansiya
mo,” sabi ng kanyang inay.

Napuno nga ang alkansiya ni Boyet. Masipag kasi siyang mag-ipon.

Nang malapit na ang pasukan ay nagkaroon ng malakas na bagyo at nasira ang mga tanim na palay ng tatay ni
Boyet. Kakaunti lang ang kanilang inani. Nagkautang ang kanyang itay. Nag-alala naman ang inay ni Boyet. Malapit
na ang pasukan at nawala ang inaasahan nilang panggagalingan ng pera.
“Baka hindi ka makapag-aral ngayong taong ito, anak,” malungkot na sabi ng kanyang inay.
“Nasira ang mga pananim natin dahil sa bagyo at may utang pa tayo.”

“Makakapagaral po ako, inay. Puno na po ang alkansiya ko. Ito ang gagamitin ko sa aking pag-aaral,”
nakangiting sabi ni Boyet.

Nakapag-aral si Boyet ng pasukang iyon. Salamat at naisipan niyang mag-impok para sa darating na
pangangailangan.

The Wind and the Moon
Said the Wind to Moon, “I will blow you out, you stare in the air like a ghost in a chair. I hate to be watched; I’ll blow
you out.”
The wind blew, and out went the Moon so deep on a heap of clouds to sleep. Down lay the wind and slumbered soon,
muttering low, “I’ve done for that Moon.”
He turned in his bed: she was there again! On high in the sky with her one ghost eye, the Moon shone white and alive
and plain, said the Wind, “I’ll blow you out again.”
The Wind blew hard, and the Moon grew dim. “With my sledge, and my wedge, I have knocked off her edge. If only
I blow right fierce and grim.”
The creature will soon be dimmer than dim. He blows and he blew, and she thinned to a thread. “One good puff
more’s enough to blow her to snuff! One good puff more where the last was bred, and glimmer, glimmer, glum will go the
thread.”
He blew a great blast, and the thread was gone. In the air, nowhere was a moonbeam bare; far off and harmless the
sky stars shone sure and certain the Moon was gone!
The Wind he took to his reveals once more; on down, in town like a merry-mad clown, he leaped and hallooed with
whistle and roar. “What’s that?” the glimmering thread once more! He flew in a rage – he danced and blew; but in vain was
