Even though the contest
was meant to source funds,
it can not be simply
dismissed as a simple
competition since the
c a n d i d a te s l e a r n e d to
communicate effectively
and ask nicely.
Many were also
shocked once the winner
was announced since Ms.
Castillo was known to sport
a boyish look and out it.
And once the awarding will
commence, she is expected
to wear a formal gown,
which she did.
Even though it was
declared by the palace that
February 24 is a non-
w o r k i n g h o l i d a y, t h e
awarding ceremony was
still pushed on upon which

Sanlibo NHS presents HUMSS strand

High School (SNHS) has
recently opened its doors to
a new strand, Humanities
and Social Sciences
(HUMSS), to cater to the
diverse interests of their
students. The HUMSS
strand covers a broad range
of subjects, including
h i s t o r y, l i t e r a t u r e ,
philosophy, and social
sciences, to name a few.
The classes of icially
started last September 13,
2021, but due to the
ongoing COVID-19
pandemic, the school has
decided to implement a
modular approach for the
irst three quarters of the
academic year. The last
quarter of the school year
will have limited face-to-
face classes, following strict
health protocols mandated
by the government.

Cristobal, the principal of
SNHS, expressed his
excitement about the
opening of the new strand.
He believes that the HUMSS
strand will allow their
students to develop critical
thinking skills and enhance
their creativity and
communication skills,
essential traits for success
in any career.
The addition of the HUMSS
strand to SNHS's
curriculum demonstrates
the school's commitment to
providing a well-rounded
education for their
students. It is hoped that
this new strand will help
students develop into well-
i n fo r m e d a n d s o c i a l ly
responsible individuals.

Allowing LGBTQ+ members to wear school uniform

In many schools in the
Philippines, students are required
to wear uniforms that conform to
traditional gender norms, which
can be particularly dif icult for
LGBTQ+ students who do not
identify with the gender assigned
to them at birth. This can lead to
feelings of discomfort, alienation,
and discrimination, which can
have a negative impact on their
a c a d e m i c p e r fo r m a n c e a n d
overall well-being.

students to wear school uniforms
s a member of the LGBTQ+ that match their gender identity,

wearing traditional uniforms.
However, these efforts are not
e n o u g h . We n e e d a m o r e
comprehensive and proactive
approach that recognizes and

Culture Shock on the First Day
of Face-to-Face Learning
T
he COVID-19 pandemic has
greatly impacted the education
system, and many students have
had to adapt to new modes of learning,
such as distance or online learning. For
grade 8 students at Sanlibo National High
School, the transition from distance
learning to face-to-face learning was a
culture shock that they were not prepared
for.
These students were in grade 5
before the pandemic, and they had been
learning from home for almost two years.
While they had adjusted to the online
classes and virtual learning environment,
they were not ready for the changes that
awaited them on their irst day of face-to-
face learning.
On the irst day of school, the
students were greeted with new faces,
new rules, and a completely different
learning environment. Many of them felt
overwhelmed and intimidated by the
changes, which they were not used to.
One of the students, Jake, said that
he found the irst day of school to be a bit
scary. “It was like a different world for me,”
he said. “I wasn't used to seeing so many
people in one place, and I didn't know
anyone.”
Another student, Nicole, shared the same
sentiment. She said that she felt anxious
and nervous throughout the day. “I was
worried about getting lost in the school
and not knowing where to go,” she said. “It
was also hard to adjust to waking up early
and going to school after such a long time
of not doing it.”
The culture shock experienced by
these grade 8 students is understandable,
given the circumstances. They have been
away from the school environment for
almost two years, and they were not
prepared for the changes that would greet
them on their irst day of face-to-face
learning.
However, as the days went by, the
students gradually adjusted to their new
environment. They began to make friends,
learn new things, and adapt to the new
rules and routines of school life. They
discovered that while the transition may
have been dif icult, it was necessary for
t h e i r g row t h a n d d eve l o p m e n t a s
students.
In conclusion, the culture shock
experienced by grade 8 students on their
irst day of face-to-face learning is
understandable, given the circumstances
of the pandemic. However, with time and
patience, these students were able to
adapt and adjust to their new
environment, and they are now well on
their way to becoming successful and well-
rounded individuals.

holistic development, but
behind this many students
couldn't attend class or could

as an agricultural
municipality, and Barangay
Sanlibo, Inanlorenza, and
Idong are one of the main
producers of onion, corn, and
rice in the province. We've
found out that the reason for
the excessive absences of the
students in SNHS is helping
their families in the ield. As a
result, some of the ield-
worker students did not
meet the required
competencies in a speci ic
learning quarter but
positively, some of them also
are one of the creams of the
crop.

It was a dreadful light to
spend weeks facing the screen
starting with a blank page. Nobody
wanted it. New bloods hated to
acknowledge it. Sure, making a
newspaper is like committing 's' at an
early stage.
I remember that I promised
the early batch of writers that every
schoolpaper that has their name
would be in history. De initely only a
few bought it. I, myself, did not even
want to start the process of ending it.
Because if you want to end
something, then, by all means, you
have to start somewhere.
What's good about being a
part of the schoolpaper team? Aside
from weekend coffee binges, wars
with the internet connections, and
sudden hope breakdowns due to lack
of sources and pictures, (esp
pictures)...nothing really. You'll just
immortalize your name on a piece of
paper that will be stored (if the
management will be able to store it
properly) for decades and decades.
I remember the time we
cleaned up our staff room back in the
college days. It wasn't just dust and
mites that we found. The irst
publications were neatly stored in a
secured cabinet. Among those news,
we found our current mentors names
on some. Their pictures were there.
Their achievements, issues and other
historical stories were all stored and
treated as treasure by the staff and
the school.
Everything has its place in
history. And history can be written by
those who aspire to write. Be it a
Grade 7 student or the graduating
Grade 12, anyone can write, but only a
few can REALLY write.
Given the opportunity, this will
be the irst publication, and a irst
treasure for the staff. This is history in
the making. And we hope, that
someday, you will be a part of the
history you can only read on the

Our health gets affected
when we use gadgets too much than
necessary. This are the effects that
can be experienced upon too much
exposure. (1) Blue Light exposure

hours of using your gadgets which
results into the slow production of
sleep hormones that prevents us
from sleeping. (2) Stiff neck. Having
a stiff neck is a common occurrence
when you have been on your screen
for too long. This happens when we
rarely change positions while using
our gadgets. (3) Blindness. We also
experience eye strain irst before
blindness when we have been
exposed too much. Unattended, this
may cause blurred vision and even
lead to blindness. (4) Laziness. This
also causes laziness due to being
addicted to spending more and
more time with your gadgets. (5)
Less sleep. Due to spending more
time with gadgets, we also get fewer
sleeping hours. This may also result
to un inished school works leading
to lower grades. (6) Disturbed
eating hours. We get to eat less than
three meals a day sometimes when

Sanlibo NHS as the fame and

clear.
Not just in basketball,
not just in volleyball,
students also aspire to be in
other sports such as speak
takraw, and if permitted, e-
sports.
With the UAAPs motto 'Rise
as One,' the resounding
message vibrates in every
athlete burning passion to
contribute to the country's
pride. From the gold
winnings of Hidilyn Diaz in
weightlifting, our students
are inding other avenues as
they discover that there are
more sports that they could
still participate in and train
in.
It is one of the best
moments that the whole
country took pride in last
December. And with it, the
whole country celebrated
and more laws are now being
pushed to help other athletes
as Ms. Diaz revealed the
hardships she has had to go
through even before
reaching where she is right
now.

2. Set your limits. If you have
goals, you also should know
your limits. Our body is not a
machine which you can
replace spare parts with.
Love your body as much as
you love your passion.
3. Create a routine. Once you
have set the two above, make
sure to stick to a simple
routine irst. You should not
shock your body with heavy
routines so instantly.
4. Behavior matters. Your
attitudes matter wherever
you go. Some professional
athletes would fall from
grace just because of being
unruly or showing rude

know when to take a break.
6. Be spiritually active. Learn

This is just a personal

time. Mr. Abalos envisioned
something more for the
school.
He is not new in the
ield of teaching since he
transferred from Labrador
National High School.
DepEd has been his home
Geliendo for years and
inally, he found a spot in
Sanlibo NHS' roster.
