INSTRUCTIONS FOR BS CIVIL PROPOSAL/THESIS

PATTERN/FORMAT

All BS Proposal/theses must comply with the following specifications.

Paper Specification
A4 size be used, no restriction is placed on drawings and maps.

BS Thesis
03 copies before defense in spiral binding or tape binding (two for external examiner, one
supervisor). After defense 03 hand bond copies Black in color (one for BUITEMS library,
one respective department HOD, and one supervisor). In addition, one copy each candidate
on good quality paper be submitted.

Layout of Script
Typescript should appear on one side only, lines: one-and-a-half spaced. Footnotes,
quotations, references and photographic captions may be single spaced. Where appropriate,
these should contain lists giving the locations of figures and illustrations (refer general
guidelines).

Components of thesis
The following components should be provided in thesis in “times new roman” format with
“1.5 line spacing”.

Title Page (refer thesis preliminaries)

Initial Pages
Initial pages should include following components in same order. Pagination should be
Arabic roman letters (I, II, III, IV etc).
 AUTHOR’S DECLARATION (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)
 PLAGIARISM UNDERTAKING (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)
 CERTIFICATE OF APPROVAL (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)
 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)
 TABLE OF CONTENTS (14 points, bold, upper-case letters, centralize) Enlist all the
contents of the thesis with page number.
 LIST OF FIGURES, if applicable (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)
 LIST OF TABLES, if applicable (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)
 LIST OF SYMBOL AND ABBREVIATIONS if applicable (14 pts, bold, upper-case
letters, centralize)
 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)
 ABSTRACT with 3-5 key words (14 pts, bold, upper-case letters, centralize)

Chapter 1: Introduction (16 points, bold, capitalize each word, centralize)


The introduction chapter must have, at least the following sub headings (as per general
guidelines):
1.1. Background
1.2. Problem statement
1.3. Aim/Objectives
1.4. Washington accord (WA), Sustainable development goals (SDG) must
be linked to problem statement, aim and objectives
1.5. Scope of the work
1.6. Thesis outline

Chapter 2: Literature Review (16 points, bold, capitalize each word, centralize)
A review of the relevant and upto-date literature showing the work done previously in the area
of proposed research is essential. The information given in the review should be supported by
references (APA style). Any subheading used should be per general guidelines.

Chapter 3: Methodology (16 points, bold, capitalize each word, centralize)


Write the detailed methodology, how work has been performed. Any subheading used should be per
general guidelines.

Chapter 4: Results and Discussions (16 points, bold, capitalize each word,
centralize)
Present the results and discuss the findings/outcomes properly. Any subheading used should
be per general guidelines.
Note: In initial defense/proposal expected or trials results may be presented

Chapter 5: Conclusions and Recommendations (16 points, bold, capitalize


each word, centralize)
Conclude the work/project and present the recommendations. Any subheading used should be
per general guidelines.

References (16 points, bold, capitalize each word, centralize).


Thesis must contain at the end, a list of references/bibliography. These should be written on a
American Psychological Association (APA) style (7th edition, based on current status).

Appendices (if applicable), Published work from the theses be included as appendix
(Reprints/ proof / preprint) or any other information specific to the respective discipline.

 Top: 2.54cm (1 inch)

 Bottom: 2.0 cm (0.8 Inch)

 Right: 2.0 cm (0.8 Inch)

 Pagination Middle bottom Using Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3…). Preliminary


pages may, however, be numbered in lower case Roman numerals (I, ii,
iii…).
