force?

Directions: Use complete sentences to answer the questions below.

16. What are two major differences between net forces that are balanced and net forces that are
unbalanced?

One major difference between net forces that are balanced as opposed to net forces that are

unbalanced is that balanced forces equal to 0 Newton while unbalanced forces have a magnitude

that is greater than 0 Newtons. Also, unlike balanced forces, which do not change an object's

velocity, unbalanced forces can cause an object's speed to increase, decrease, or change directions

(a change in velocity).

17. An object is not moving. What will happen if the net force acting on it is balanced?

Since the net force is balanced, it will not affect the object's motion. An object at rest will remain at

rest and not move.

18. An object is not moving. What will happen if the net force acting on it is unbalanced?
When the net force is unbalanced, it can cause the object to move and change its velocity (speed

and/or direction).

19. An object is moving. What will happen to that object if the net force acting on it is balanced?

If an object is moving and the net force is balanced, the object will continue to move at the same

speed and in the same direction. The velocity does not change.

20. An object is moving. What will happen to that object if the net force acting on it is unbalanced?

If the net force is unbalanced, then the object's velocity will change. The speed might decrease, the

speed might increase, and the direction may change also.
