The class will be shown a picture of a burger. Then, the teacher will ask
different questions about it.

Ask: Have you eaten a burger?


What does it tastes like?
Say: We all know that the patty or the meat is a beef
right? So why don't we call it a"beefburger" instead of hamburger??
(The name “hamburger" actually came from Hamburg, the second largest
city in Germany. In the late 1700s, sailors who traveled between Hamburg
and New York City often ate hard slabs of salted minced
beef,which they called “Hamburg steak.")

Integrate: If you are fond of eating burgers, remember this: “A hamburger


does provide some nutritional value. It is a good source of protein,
iron, phosphorus, and several othernutrients. But eating a hamburger will
boost your saturated fat intake. Saturated fat is linked to a higher risk of
cardiovascular disease.”

Ask: Class, do you want to become writers or do you want make stories? If so,
you must befamiliar with a paragraph. But what is paragraph?

Say: A paragraph is a group of sentences that expresses a single idea.

3. Presentation

 Show again the burger.


Say: Think of a paragraph as burger.

Ask: How many parts does a burger have? (3- The upper bun, patty, and lower
bun)
Say: Now, as you connect it in a paragraph, how many parts does a paragraph
also have? (3-topic sentence, supporting details, and concluding sentence) .

 Discuss the parts of a simple paragraph (see PVOT-4A Module, p.7-8) or


 Present another paragraph.
My mother is a busy person.She gets up early to prepare breakfast for
us. After breakfast, she washes the dishes and cleans our home. Then, she gives my
brother and sister a bath and brings them to school. She works most of her time
everyday.

(It is the topic sentence of the paragraph. It states the main
idea and tells us what the paragraph is all about).

Then, she gives my brother and sister a bath and brings them
to school.
(These sentences discuss, support and agree with the topic
sentence. These are the supporting sentences of the
paragraph)
d) What is the concluding sentence of the paragraph?
She works most of her time everyday.
e) Does the sentence restate or talk about the main idea? Does it end
the
paragraph?
The last sentence is the concluding sentence of the
paragraph.

7. Application
Read the paragraph. Put the details in the burger organizer/ burger paragraph.

Washing hands need to maintain a healthy body. We should wash our hands
before and after eating. We also wash our hands after using the toilet. We also need
to wash hand before and after taking care of a sick friend or relative. Washing hands
is needed to get rid of disease causing germs from our body.
