FINAL ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES

OPTION 1
For this assignment, which accounts for 60% of the grade, the learners needs to describe and
evaluate an authentic assessment plan in real Vietnamese high school context. This the the plan
or procedure to assess one English skill (out of 4 major skills) or language element (vocabulary,
grammar, pronunciation) for a specific group of students in a specific period (prefarably one
short course or semester). If students are not teaching, they need to interview an in-service
teacher and to formulate this plan and perform the assignment. The components of the
assessment plan may follow lecture 2 and should include information on the following points:
1. The context features: students’ level, the major skill, the used materials for instruction
2. The course objectives/the construct which is targeted in the course
3. The assessment major tasks (such as the 45-minute test): their purposes, their targets,
weighing
4. For each assessment major task the format/matrix (if there are), the specifications, the
scale (if there are)
5. Sample tasks and tests if there are
6. Other guidelines for communicating with students, conducting the scoring, recording,
providing feedback if there are

After forming the assessment plan, please write an essay of at most 1000 words (maximum) to
evaluate it, answering these suggested questions:
a. What are the steps to conduct assessment? Do teachers have sufficient guideline
to conduct the assessment process when they receive this assessment plan?
b. What are the purposes? Do the assessment purposes aim at students’ learning?
c. Are the assessment targets of the tasks/tests well written based on cognitive and
competence models and clearly stated?
d. Are there different assessment methods? What are the instruments? Are they
good?
e. Are there any efforts to enhance the quality of assessment?
Students also need to consider the rubric framework presented in the table 1 below. Each of these
criteria is specified in a 4-point Likert scale.

the plan, such as the assessment process, methods, instruments (including tests and scales),
