Biography

Lin Dan is a professional men's singles badminton player from China. He was named the best

badminton player of all time, having won all badminton championships in the world, such as

the Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, All

England Open, Asian Games and Asia Championships. But now he is ranked 2nd after Lee

Chong Wei as the best player in the world according to BWF (Badminton World Federation).

This man, nicknamed Super Dan by his fans, was directed to learn the piano by his parents

when he was little. However, he became more interested in badminton at the age of 5. Lin

then entered the People's Liberation Army sports club at the age of 15. He won the Asian

Junior Championships in the men's singles and doubles categories in 2000. A year later he

was selected for the Chinese badminton national team (2001).

The husband of Chinese women's singles badminton player, Xie Xingfang, has become the

BWF World Champion 4 times from 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and also won the 2008 Beijing

Olympics Gold Medal. Lin also won 3 Superseries titles in 2011, namely at the Korea Open,
Hong Kong Open and China Open. With a total of 46 wins and 17 runners-up wins, Lin Dan's

career is not expected to end until the 2012 season.

Lin had a controversy with his coach at the Thomas Cup championship, where he

contradicted his coach, Ji Xinpeng, in front of his colleagues.

fellow badminton players and journalists because of differences of opinion. Lin is also known

as one of the players who doesn't appreciate sportsmanship. In order to pursue his country's

target of qualifying as many athletes as possible for the 2012 London Olympics, he often

walked over (withdrawn before competing) in various Superseries championships, especially

against his compatriots from China. For example, at the Singapore Open, Lin Dan walked

over and handed over the title to Chen Jin. However, when he played in his own country, he

didn't want to lose and won the last 2 Superseries championships, namely the China Open

and the Hong Kong Open.
