VELOCITY TIME GRAPH OF A UNIFORMLY ACCELERATED MOTION

The velocity-time graph of a uniformly accelerated motion is a

straight line graph inclining towards the time axis. If the object
has positive constant acceleration, the graph slopes upward. In
case the object has negative constant acceleration, the velocity-
time graph will slope downward.

EQUATIONS OF MOTION FOR CONSTANT ACCELERATION USING CALCULUS METHOD

Change∈ velocity
Acceleration =

dv
a=
dt
dv = a . dt

Integrating on both sides with low and high values,

v t

∫ dv = ∫ a dt
v0 0
t
= a ∫ dt ( since a is a constant)

Substituting integral values v – v0 at

v = v0 + at  Eq. 1
dx
We know that, v =
dt
dx = v dt
Integrating on both sides,
x t

∫ dx = ∫ v dt
x0 0

Using v value from Eq.1,

x t

∫ dx = ∫ v dt
x0 0
t
x – x0 = ∫ ( v||0+ at ) dt

t
x – x0 = ∫ ( v 0 dt+ at . dt|)

x = x0 + v 0 t + at 2  Eq.2

Sensitivity: General

We can write the acceleration as

dv dv dx dv
a= = = v
dt dx dt dx
v dv =a dx
Integrating on both sides,
v x

∫ vdv=∫ a dx
v0 x0
2 2
v −v 0
= a ( x − x0 )
2
v = v 0 + 2a ( x − x 0 )  Eq.3
2 2

The advantage of this integral calculus method is that it can be used for motion with non-
uniform acceleration also.
