By implementing this procedure, it will reduce the device down time, increased data
protection, extend life of the device and its components, increased stability and save on regular
repair and replacement costs.
Note: Preventive Maintenance procedures can be a hardware and software related or both.
Maintenance Tasks
__________________________________________________________________________________________
The following are some tips for creating a safe environment for your devices.
• Place the devices and components in a cool and dry place away from direct sun light.
Ideal operating temperature for a device environment is 23°C/73°F.
• Always use an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), Automatic Voltage Regulator
(AVR) or power surge protector to protect your devices from electrical spikes or power
interruption.
• Provide a good airflow for the system unit to prevent it from overheating.
• Keep your devices from Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), which can cause a
degradation of electronic circuitry inside the device or circuitry failures
Device Cleaning
Cleaning the device is essential to keep it on peak condition, extend its life and make
the files and data safe. A system unit in a normal working environment should be cleaned at
least annually. The table below gives examples of a Preventive Maintenance schedule:
Before starting your cleaning activity, make sure that you have gathered all the
necessary cleaning tools and materials. For the review of these tools and materials, you can

Directions: Using your smartphone, tablet, or any recording device. Make a short video tutorial
on how to maintain good functionality of one of the following components or devices
but not limited to (keyboard, mouse, monitor, system unit, or laptop). Keep your
tutorial short with a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 4 minutes. Turn-in
or submit your video on your respective Google Classroom.

• A healthy and safe environment can play an important factor in keeping your personal
computer at peak condition. Heat, dust, and humidity can deteriorate your component
rapidly. Accumulation of these elements can slow down the performance of your system
and eventually lead to system failure. So regular inspection, detection, and correction
can greatly lessen or prevent future system failures.
• Use the necessary Electrostatic discharge (ESD) tools every time you perform the
maintenance inside any device.
Directions: Complete the statement below based on what have you learned.
POST-TEST

C. cable ties
D. microfiber cloth
3. It is known as a battery backup, provides backup power when your regular power
source fails, or voltage drops to an unacceptable level.
A. AVR
B. EMI
