Developing The

Whole Person
What is the first things
that comes to your mind
when you think about
being a teenager?
HOLISM AND GESTALT
HOLISM is about seeing things as a whole and as something
that is bigger than the sum of its parts.

GESTALT is defined as something that is made of many parts

and yet is somehow more than or different from the
combination of its parts.

An example of holism and gestalt is evident on music. A

symphony cannot be defined by one of its notes alone.
Another example is a car. A car is made up of hundreds of
parts.

Separately, these parts do not represent a car, but when put

together and made to work with each other, these parts
produce

the other aspects of a person.

EMOTIONS VS. FEELINGS

EMOTIONS are usually caused by physical sensations

experienced by the body as a reaction to a certain external
stimulus. In a state of strong emotions, the person’s physical
responses include faster heartbeat, profuse sweating and
dilation of eye’s pupils, higher blood pressure, and muscular
tremors, affecting the nervous system in general.

the emotions that were experience. Feelings arise
from the brain as it interprets an emotion which is
usually caused by physical sensations experienced
by the body as a reaction to a certain external
stimulus. An example of this would be the emotion of
being afraid, which produces the feeling of fear.
