Chief Village Officer

Scope & Purpose

Reporting to the President of Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF), the Chief Village Officer (CVO) is responsible for
ensuring that Community First! Village is operated and maintained at the highest level of excellence through
the leadership and management of the Resident Care and Property Management teams in addition to all
neighbor-focused community partnerships of Mobile Loaves & Fishes. The primary responsibility of the CVO is
to ensure that MLF’s Resident Care and Property Management teams execute on our vision of empowering
communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless and achieve our mission of providing food and
clothing, cultivating community, and promoting dignity to our homeless brothers and sisters. The CVO will
provide skilled leadership as Community First! Village grows, with a focus on strategic planning and execution,
leadership development, effective collaboration, stewardship, succession planning, and relationship-building.

This role provides an extraordinary opportunity for a talented, relational leader to shape and develop the
future of Community First! Village, work with a passionate team, and contribute to a rapidly growing
organization with a strong reputation, committed Board of Directors, and a history of successful fundraising.

The CVO will be a role model and coach who leads the Resident Care and Property Management teams in
working collaboratively across the organization to ensure that the organization’s goals are achieved. The MLF
Board and Executive Team see this role as a crucial position at an important time in the organization’s growth,
particularly as the Village expands beyond the first phase into future phases.

This is an exempt, full-time executive leadership position. Due to the nature and requirements of the position,
the hours are flexible to fit the need, but typically include Monday through Friday, with frequent weekend and
evening requirements. The CVO will office at MLF Headquarters located at Community First! Village, 9301 Hog
Eye Rd, Austin, TX 78724.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategy, Vision, & Leadership


● Serve as a valuable member of the MLF Executive Team who models a deep and enduring commitment
to the organization’s vision, mission, core values, and goals, and aspires to grow as a strategic servant
leader with a commitment to lifelong learning.
● In collaboration with the Executive Team and the Directors of Resident Care and Property
Management, develop, adopt, and execute a strategic plan for the growth and evolution of Community
First! Village. This plan will focus on ensuring a permanent home and supportive community for all
neighbors, planning and developing capacity for future growth, developing and pursuing new funding
opportunities in collaboration with the Relationships & Giving team, strengthening relationships with
key partners, and representing the Village’s opportunities, results, and impact to the Board.
● Lead, coach, and retain a high-performing team with an emphasis on developing capacity in leadership
development, strategic analysis, planning, and program budgeting.

● Build a culture of excellence, strong internal collaboration, effective external partnerships, goal
achievement, professional growth, and continuous learning among the Resident Care and Property
Management teams.
● Focus on effective stewardship by deploying resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational
goals, while providing regular feedback so that your team can continuously improve their leadership
and customer service.
● Act as a role model and lead the Resident Care and Property Management teams in embracing our
cultural value that every one of us is a relationship manager with responsibility for using our Halo
Impact to connect potential donors and volunteers with the needs of our programs and the neighbors
who call Community First! Village home.
● Participate with MLF’s Executive Team in making prayerful decisions; developing and executing the
organization’s strategy; achieving organizational goals; and leading change management efforts for a
rapidly growing organization.
● Represent MLF in the community and consistently evangelize the organization’s vision, mission, core
values, and goals.

Team Oversight & Management


● Mentor and guide the Directors of Resident Care and Property Management in the effective leadership
and oversight of their respective teams.
● Consistently improve the operations of the Village with a focus on key performance indicators related
to neighbor move-ins, neighbor care, rent collection, community building, neighbor engagement, and
overall neighbor happiness and wellbeing.
● Ensure that all aspects of Resident Care and Property Management operate consistently and ethically
within MLF’s vision, mission, core values, and goals and in accordance with MLF policies and
procedures.
● Establish and monitor staff performance and growth goals, set objectives and establish priorities, and
contribute to staff learning and development with a supportive and relational approach.
● Oversee fiscal management of Resident Care and Property Management in collaboration with the
Finance team, including creating programmatic budgets and holding staff accountable for budget
management.
● Display and create calm steadiness in managing a wide variety of day-to-day activities, while
continuing to lead MLF through growth and change.
● Grow and develop the Resident Care and Property Management teams and create leadership
succession strategies that prepare MLF for a strong future as the Village grows.

Partner Relationship Building


● Ensure strong relationships with CF!V Missionals and other partner organizations that serve
Community First! Village neighbors, including Integral Care, Family Eldercare, CommunityCare, Life
Anew, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Travis County Community Health Paramedic Program, faith
communities, service organizations and many more.
● Focus on building a solid foundation for all partner relationships that is rooted in MLF’s vision, mission,
core values, and goals. Ensure all partners understand the philosophies that MLF lives by.
● Strategize with the Resident Care Director and the Missional Advisory Board about how to prepare the
Missional Team for the growth of the Village and support Missional neighbors who are called into a
lifestyle of service by living at the Village.
● Cultivate, nurture, and steward relationships with new partners who could deepen the care that is
provided to Village neighbors.
● Serve as a “systems leader” with MLF partners to multiply the value of our unique relational approach
to serving neighbors with a focus on achieving mutually beneficial goals.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
The successful candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about the nonprofit/social sector with a deep
understanding of the current system of care for those experiencing homelessness. She or he will be
enthusiastically committed to MLF’s vision, mission, core values, and goals. She or he will gain and deepen
his/her understanding of the philosophies and guiding principles that defines and shapes MLF’s culture. The
CVO candidate will embrace embodying the values and guiding principles, modeling and coaching MLF staff to
do the same. While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, the successful
candidate is a servant leader who will fit many of the following professional qualifications and personal
attributes:

● Experience leading within a rapidly growing organization and identifying and responding to
opportunities with innovation and creativity. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of
professional experience overall, with a minimum of five years of senior-leadership experience
supervising seasoned staff.
● Demonstrated understanding of high-need communities and the complex, multi-faceted issues facing
the men and women MLF serves, with the ability to support and inspire a team of leaders who are on
the front lines of caring for and restoring dignity to a vulnerable population.
● A strong ability to engage and strengthen relationships with the vital and diverse partners that Mobile
Loaves & Fishes works with to serve the neighbors who call Community First! Village home.
● Proven successes in planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating and modifying programs, systems,
and operations.
● Experience hiring and retaining senior staff and leading through transitions and growth with expertise
in succession planning. Exceptional management skills and demonstrated success in supervising
managers with a relational leadership style, skill in giving and receiving feedback, the ability to hold
staff accountable and drive continuous improvement, and experience in change management.
● A strong​ ​entrepreneurial spirit​ and a professional background where you have consistently shown
enthusiasm and passion, questioned how things can be done better, remained optimistic about all
possibilities, taken calculated risks, and recognized that execution is paramount (Matt Ehrlichman).
● Proven track record of leading with integrity, striving for excellence, and coaching others to new levels
of effectiveness and impact.
● Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to thrive in a high
autonomy/high accountability environment, and to adapt to changing circumstances, working flexibly
in order to handle multiple priorities.
● Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF’s
vision, mission, core values, and goals. MLF is a faith-based organization with its ideals and philosophy
