Wiring and equipment separations
All wiring and controllers must be installed to minimize the possibility of accidental contact with other, potentially
hazardous and disruptive power and lighting wiring. Never place 24VAC or communications wiring near other
bare power wires, lightning rods, antennas, transformers, or steam or hot water pipes. Never place wire in any
conduit, box, channel, duct or other enclosure containing power or lighting circuits of any type. Always provide
adequate separation of communications wiring and other electrical wiring according to code. Keep wiring and
controllers at least six feet from large inductive loads (power distribution panels, lighting ballasts, motors, etc.).
Failure to follow these guidelines can introduce electrical interference and cause the system to operate
erratically.
Warning
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a class A digital device, pursuant to part
15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference
when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate
radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause
harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause
harmful interference, in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.

With Envision for IBEX v2.0, the Envision server supports up to 32 IBEX
Ethernet Adapters and 32 APEXs. If you are setting up a WAN system
architecture, plan your system layout carefully. Determine which APEXs will
connect to each Ethernet adapter and where the Envision server will be located.

2. Plug the male end of power cable into the power source.
3. Turn on the power switch on the Ethernet Adapter to ensure that the unit
is receiving power.
N ote The adapter should beep once. If it continues to beep, reseat the
memory card as described in the following procedure.
4. Remove and reinstall the memory card. See Figure 1 on page 6 for
proper orientation.

* Single-point grounding should be used on Alerton LAN runs to avoid current on the shield. If grounding at IBW-ETH-ADP
preferred, shield can be grounded using GND terminal T5 in the same manner as shown here for APEX. At mid-segment
devices, tie shield-drain through directly using a wire nut without grounding.
No te Do not ground the IBEX Ethernet Adapter. You should always ground the
APEX instead. See your APEX Installation and Operations Guide for more
information on grounding and wiring global controllers.
• The AlerLAN baud rate for the IBEX Ethernet Adapter and all global
controllers is the same
When you’ve connected the IBEX Ethernet Adapter to the Alerton and Ethernet
LANs, use a serial cable to connect directly to the IBEX Ethernet Adapter and
set the initial communication parameters.
After initial setup, you can access and change parameters using a Web browser
or the serial connection (with HyperTerminal).
2. Turn on power.
2. Type a name for the connection, select an icon, and then click OK.
3. Select the COM port used to direct connect, and then click OK.
4. Set the HyperTerminal parameters, and then click OK. See the
following table for information about HyperTerminal parameters and
settings.

Stop bits 1
6. Type the login name (default is config), and then press Enter.
7. Type the password (default is pass), and then press Enter. The IBEX
Ethernet Adapter Main Menu appears.
You can now enter the IP parameters necessary for your IBEX Ethernet
Adapter.
3. When you have changed all the parameters necessary, press Z and Enter
to save your changes and exit.

Parameters
Configure DHCPa enabled Choose whether to use DHCP (non-static) IP
addresses or static IP addresses.
When DHCP is disabled, you must supply the
IBEX Ethernet Adapter IP address, netmask,
and Envision server’s IP address.
When DHCP is enabled, you only need to
supply the Ethernet Adapter host name or IP
address for the Envision server.
Set domain name <blank> Select this option to set the domain name.
Default Gateway <blank> Leave this field blank if you’re not using a
gateway.
IBEXWIN Server a ibwserver Enter the IP address or host name for the
Envision server.
a. At a minimum, these parameters must be correctly filled out when using DHCP.
The options on this menu allow you to identify the IBEX Ethernet Adapter
connected to one or more APEXs. However, you may find it easier and more
convenient to perform this function in Envision for IBEX instead. See Envision
for IBEX Installation and Startup Guide (LT-TM-EFIINSTL) for more
information.
Option Explanation
1. Configure Ethernet Adapter Select this option if only one APEX is connected to this
for particular APEX Ethernet Adapter or you need to configure multiple, non-
sequentially numbered APEXs. You are prompted to
enter the APEX number and the Ethernet Adapter’s IP
address.
3. Show Ethernet Adapter Select to display a table of APEX numbers and the IP
Table address of the Ethernet Adapter they are connected to
(if configured).
X To edit the factory default user name and password using a Web
browser
1. Open your Web browser and type a URL, depending on the way your
system is set up. Use the first option if the Ethernet Adapter is
configured with a static IP address.
http://<Ethernet Adapter IP address>
- or -
http://<your hostname>.<your domain>
2. Click Go.
3. Type a user name and password (factory default is config, pass), and
then click OK.
7. Type the new password again for verification, and then click Change
Password Now.
N ote If you forget the new user name and password, you must return
the Ethernet Adapter to Alerton to have the factory default user name
and password reset.
3. Type a user name and password (factory default is config, pass), and
then click OK.
5. Type (or change) the host name of the IBEX Ethernet Adapter, if
necessary (when using DHCP with DNS).
