GETTING CABLE DRUM TO THE SITE

1. IR value of the cable drum must be checked before loading/transporting the cable drum to site.

2. With the help of lifting hydra crane, the drum should be carried to the site of execution. It must be
placed at from where it can be easily accessible. Once more, the IR value should be checked after getting
the cable drum to site of execution.

3. Check end of the cables are protected by PVC end cap.

4. Check proper size , load tested cable jack / stand , placed on a leveled surface to hold the cable drum
prior to start de-coiling of the cable.

The above are Pre-requiste which has to be followed on both, cable laying on under ground and on tray.

A) UNDER GROUND CABLE LAYING

 TRENCH EXCAVATION
1. Excavation of trench to be done as per drawings, minimum 1.2mtr & width as per no. of cable runs in
the trench.
2. Check excavation of trench work has been completed fully & levelled from sharp boulders.
3. Check minimum 75mm sand bedding done below the cables before cable laying in the trench.

5. Check the cable shall be pulled over on rollers in the trench steadily and uniformly without jerks and
strain. The entire cable length shall as far as possible be laid off in one stretch.

RECOMMENDED SAFE PULLING FORCE WITH STOCKINGS:

a). For Unarmoured Cable: P = 5 D²

Where P = Pulling Force
b). For Armoured Cable : P = 9 D²
Where D = Diameter of cable in mm

RECOMMENDED SAFE PULLING FORCE WHEN PULLED WITH PULLING EYE:

a) For Aluminium Conductors : 30 N/mm²

b) For Copper Conductors : 30 N/mm²

CLEARANCES: THE DESIRED MINIMUM CLEARANCES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Power cable to power cable: Clearance not necessary however, larger the clearance, better would be
current carrying capacity.
