TAYAN, KHRAEN MAE L 08/09/2023

BAD; LRIZAL

" Is speaking less of the Filipino language make one less nationalistic?"

The poem by Jose Rizal emphasizes the importance of our own language as a
symbol of freedom and independence from colonizers. It encourages the use of our
native language, Tagalog, in communication and socializing with others. The poem
highlights the importance of nationalism and national identity, as Filipinos often
prioritize learning other languages over using their own. It encourages the love for
one's native language and the importance of using it for communication and
socializing. Our language is also the identification of who we are. We are being
distinguished with our language. The phrase “ang hindi marunong magmahal ng
sariling wika, ay mas masangsang pa ang amoy sa malansang isda”, personally, it
means disrespecting our language. If we do not love our own language then we are
a shame to our own nation.

In modern society, it is not diminishing for parents to use English as their child's first
language, as it allows them freedom and choice in their child's growth. The poem
"Rizal" encourages exploration and not to be afraid to learn other languages, as it
doesn't define one as a "stench like a fish" or abandon their country for learning
another language. Those who think speaking Tagalog is dumb or ashamed to use
their language may be considered stench like a fish. Language is not the only
measure of loyalty, generosity, love, and respect, but also of patriotism, nationality,
to identify as a Filipino. The poem encourages us to embrace other languages and
not be afraid to learn other languages.

Jose Rizal's poem encourages us to cherish our language and never forget our
origins, even when learning another language. It encourages us to use our native
language as a tool to express our feelings and ideas, even when learning another
language. Rizal's poems emphasize the importance of preserving and appreciating
our culture through our language, and by using or not forgetting our native language,
we are loving our country and preserving its rich history.
