Properties of Water
Properties of Water
A short introduction
Water is a material that exists in gaseous, liquid, and solid forms and is made up of the chemical
component’s hydrogen and oxygen.
The five primary characteristics of water are its attraction to polar molecules, high specific heat,
high heat of vaporization, decreased ice density, and high polarity. So let's get started!

Station 9
Procedure
Station 2.
1. Using tap water, wash and rinse a penny. Using a paper towel, fully dry it.
2. Set the penny down on a level surface. The smoother the surface, the better the outcome
of this experiment.
3. Gently drop some water in 1 penny until it reaches its highest volume of water we can
drop.
4. Gently drop some alcohol in the other penny until it reaches its highest volume of liquid
in a coin we can drop.
5. Keep track of the water droplets as you add them one at a time, until the water reaches
the penny's edge. You'll be shocked at how many drops you'll receive on there!
Station 3.
Station 4
3. Add pepper
Station 7
1. Fill the test tube with water until it completely fills all the way up
2. Fill also the graduated cylinder with 50 ml of water
Station 8
2. By the use of ruler, first measure the extraction the water with the capillary tube.
3. Do it with alcohol.
Station 9
2. Using magnets, try to combine the elements according to the proper water molecule
formula.
Observation
I observed that each station has different ways on how to represent and to show the properties of
water, I really noticed about the simulation of station 2, which the pure water reaches the highest
volume with the coin while the alcohol’s reach was lower than the reached volume of pure
water, so my observations are…
Station 1: Surface tension- small items will float on the surface of a fluid due to surface tension
as long as they do not break through and split the top layer of water molecules.
Station 2: Cohesion and surface tension- Because of hydrogen bonding, water has unique
cohesion and surface tension. Hydrogen bonds are created when the hydrogen atoms of one
molecule are drawn to the oxygen atoms of another.
Station 3: Surface tension- responsible for the curvature of air and liquid surfaces. Surface
tension is a basic characteristic of liquid surfaces.
Station 4: Surface tension- as we all know, pepper is hydrophobic, which means it does not
attract water. As a result, unlike salt or sugar, pepper does not dissolve in water. Because water
molecules tend to attach to one another, the pepper can float on the surface. They organize
themselves in such a way that surface tension is created on the surface of the water.
Station 7: Surface tension because each molecule of water is attracted to the other water
molecules surrounding it, surface tension holds the water together and acts against gravity, which
would ordinarily force the water to sink.
Station 8: The flow of water inside the gaps of a porous material caused by the forces of
adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension is defined.
Station 9: surface tension, because water is diamagnetic and it is made up of small particles
known as molecules. Every drop of water is made up of millions of molecules, and each
molecule is made up of smaller things known as atoms. E
Conclusion
For my conclusion, the properties of water come in many ways, and many simulations nor
experimentation, water is so important to us, that’s why we need to learn it. Water is essential for
human survival. Its flexibility and versatility aid in the performance of critical chemical
processes. Its basic molecular structure aids in the preservation of key forms for the inner
components and outer membrane of cells. When it comes to special characteristics that support
life, no other molecule compares to water.
