About the Faculty

Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow is one of the leading Legal Institution in India. It was
established in 1921 with three teachers. Mr. Jag Mohan Nath Chak served as its first Dean. The
real architect was Prof. R.U. Singh who with great zeal and enthusiasm organized teaching and
research in the faculty in a systematic way. He held the office of the Dean, Faculty of Law till
1956. He also structured the Law Faculty of Delhi and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The
distinction of having drafted the Constitution of Nepal is his to claim.
Dr. V N. Shukla, the well-known authority on Constitutional Law was the first LL.M. of the
University. His book on Indian Constitution is still an authoritative text. Mr. A.T. Markose was
the first LL.D. of the Faculty. He also held the office of Director, Indian Law Institute and was a
Member of Administrative Tribunal, International Court of Justice.

The Faculty has produced many distinguished personalities including Dr. Shanker Dayal
Sharma, former President of India, Shri Ram Krishna Hegde, former Chief Minister of
Karnataka, Mr. Surjeet Singh Barnala, the Governor of Uttaranchal and Mr. N.K.P. Salve.
Similarly, Mr. Justice Dr. A.S. Anand, Former Chief Justice of India and Mr. Justice Saghir
Ahmed, Mr. Justice Brijesh Kumar of the Supreme Court, and many High Court Judges to name
a few, have also been law graduates of the Faculty of Law, Lucknow University. The presence of
a large permanent faculty offers a positive student-teacher ratio leading to consistent
interpersonal interactions. Law faculty, Lucknow University offers the LL.B (three years course)
LL.B (Hons.) Five years course, LL.M., and Doctoral Degrees (Ph.D. in Law) and post-doctoral
(LL.D.) in Law. Faculty of Law has been organizing 'Dr. V Shukla Memorial Lecture' on one of the
contemporary topics during March every year for the last four consecutive years. Legal
luminaries like Prof. Mool Chand Sharma, Prof. R. K. Mishra, Ex-Vice-Chancellor, DDU
Gorakhpur University, Dr. Brij Kishore Sharma, Ex. Chairman, Copyright Board, New Delhi, Prof.
M.P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NUJS, Kolkata and on April 09, 2011 Hon'ble Mr. Justice
Markandey Katju, former Judge, Supreme Court of India, Mr. Justice Dr. A.S. Anand Ex- Chief
Justice of India have so far delivered enlightening and thought provoking lectures in the series.
Faculty of Law also organizes Prof. R U. Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition. The
faculty of law successfully organized a Refresher Course in Law in 2012 with the help of
academic staff college, University of Lucknow.

About Us
ADR, DRAFTING & LITERARY SOCIETY
ADR, Drafting and Literary Society (ADLS) is an academic body which was constituted in 2022.
It is a dedicated society which aims to provide a platform to students for the enhancement
requisite skills in fields of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Legal Drafting, and Literary.

The Society conducts training programs and workshops, honing the drafting and argumentative
skills of nascent legal minds. It organizes through its faculty and student body, various
competitions, thereby enabling students to participate in external competitions organized both
nationally and internationally and bring laurels to the University.
PIL DRAFTING COMPETITION
RULES AND REGULATION
Eligibility
The competition shall be open for the students currently pursuing their
bachelor’s degree in Law i.e. 3-Year LL.B. course or 5-Year LL.B. course from any
recognized University/College in India.
Only 24 teams for competition shall be entertained on A First come First serve
basis.

Team Composition
“Individual Participation” as well as “Participation in a team of two” is allowed.
Participants from two different universities may also form a team.
The substitution of any Team Member is not allowed after the registration
deadline except in extenuating circumstances and only with permission of the
Organizer.

Registration Process
The participating teams can register themselves by filling out the Registration
Form:
The participation fee for Individual is Rs. 300 and for a team is Rs. 500.

The payment screenshot must be attached within the registration form.
After the successful registration, each participant or team shall be allotted a
unique team code for further reference.
Last day to register for the competition is 10th October 2023.

Queries
All the queries and clarifications must be sent to the official mail ID of the
organizers i.e. “adls.univoflucknow@gmail.com” and the subject of the mail
must read as “PIL COMPETITION QUERY”. No query without the subject “PIL
COMPETITION QUERY” would be entertained.
Submission Guidelines
Topic of PIL
The participants may submit a PIL draft on any issue of contemporary relevance
that they deem fit.

Submission of PIL Drafts


Each Participating Team must submit ONE PIL draft.
If a participant/team wishes to submit any annexure to support his/her
arguments contained in the Draft [for instance Reports, Commentaries, etc.] a
compendium of all the relevant annexures must be prepared and should be sent
along with the memorial.
All PIL drafts must be sent to the email address:
adls.univoflucknow@gmail.com in till 15th October 2023 , 11:59 PM with the
Subject of the email as “PIL Draft, Team Code”
Any submission made after the deadline will not be considered for evaluation.

Any submission with any name reference of the participant will be


disqualified.

Formatting Guidelines
All the drafts must be submitted in both Microsoft Word Document
format (.doc/.docx) and PDF Format (.pdf) [i.e. each participant is
required to send 2 filesOne in MS Word format and one in PDF format].
The body of the submissions must be in the font “Times New Roman”
with font size 12, with line spacing of 1.5, and justified. (The Font size for
the Headings can be formatted as per the choice of the participants)
The Footnotes shall be in Times New Roman, size 10, single line spacing,
justified. Authorities shall be cited as per the Bluebook 20th Edition.

JUDGING CRITERIA:
1. Formatting of the submission
2. Clarity on the subject matter
3. Originality and relevance
Content of the PIL
The PIL is to be filed before the Supreme Court of India.
The PIL Memorial must contain all of, and only, the following components:
Cover page; which should contain;
(a) The Unique team code in the upper right-hand corner.
(b) The name of the case;
Table of Contents;
Table of Abbreviations;
Index of Authorities;
Statement of Jurisdiction;
Facts of the Case;
Issue(s) Raised;
Summary of Arguments/Pleadings;
Arguments Advanced/Pleadings;
Prayer;
Table of annexures.
There is no restriction on the number of pages.

Prizes
Cash prizes of Rupees for WINNER:- 3,000 & RUNNER UP:- 2,000 shall be awarded to the
Winner & Runner Up holders respectively.
3 month SCC online subscription will be provided to both the Winner and the Runner up
holders.
All the participants shall be awarded Certificates of Participation and Merit based on their
respective performance.

Resolution of a tie between two teams


A particular position shall be given to only one team.
In the event of a tie between two teams, the determination of ranks shall be done on the
basis of:
1. Knowledge of law and facts of the proposition.
2. Proper and articulate analysis.
3. Extent and use of research.
Last, if and only if the tie is not resolved by the aforementioned parameters, ranks will be
determined on the basis of a coin toss, or other digital randomization methods.

Declaration of Results
Results shall be declared tentatively by 25th of October 2023.

NOTE: Society has all the power to amend or modify any of the
conditions which are given above, as it deems fit.
