The effect of different wing surface areas of a

paper aeroplane on the horizontal displacement of

the paper aeroplane.
Introduction
I have recently discovered a newfound fascination for paper aeroplanes and one day while
my friends and I were playing with paper aeroplanes we made out of our timetables I noticed
that my plane that had narrower wings travelled faster than the one my friend made that had
wider wings but his paper aeroplane travelled further but since I am now taking IB physics, I
plan to explore that aspect of the aerospace and mechanical engineering using a home-
made catapult and a paper aeroplane with different size wings in terms of the surface area
rather than length which shall be ignored.

Research question
How does wing surface area(20cm, 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 60cm,70cm) affect the horizontal
displacement of a paper aeroplane

Methodology
I shall perform the experiment using a catapult crafted out of cardboard and a paper
aeroplane that the catapult shall launch from the table and I shall measure the displacement
of the different wing-sized aeroplanes each time to ensure that uncertainties and errors are
minimised I shall perform the experiment three times for each variation

Equipment
-Chalk
-Cardboard
-a4 paper
-rubber band
-measuring tape
-ruler
-weighing scale
