II. Comprehension Check.

1. What is common in the two versions of the creation?

 As a myth, both the Visayan and Tagalog myths talk about various
divinities/Gods and how they created the living things and its home. It is also
evident that the idea of how the first man and woman were created is parallel in
the two myths. They came out from a hollow part of one of the branches of
bamboo that is planted by their Gods.
2. How did the early Filipinos view God as reflected in the myth?
 Most of the early Filipinos worship their divinities and value the guidance of their
guidance. Even though some believed that they can overpower the Gods, the
fact that their divinities were very powerful and that no one can replace them is
reflected in the two myths; a manifestation of how the early Filipinos believed
that no one could defeat nor replace the Gods for they are very powerful.
3. How do the versions differ?
 The most noticeable difference between the two myths is that the story of the
Visayan Myth is more detailed than the Tagalog Myth especially when it comes to
the creation of the heavenly bodies like the star, moon and sun. On the other
hand, the behavior of the people towards their Gods id also different in the two
versions of creation.
4. Justify the punishment to people who disobey laws or instructions.
 “Let your anger be shown to everyone and it shall make them into what they are
meant to be.” This is Bathala’s statement when Malakas and Maganda prayed to
ask his guidance for their children disobeyed their orders. I believe this kind of
punishment is beneficial in the long run for it has an end-goal which is to enable
the people to live the way they are meant to, therefore making them realize their
purpose. In simple terms, consider the consequences of your incorrect deeds.
This consequences are the punishments, the burdens and the challenges that
tortures us in the present but changes us for the betterment of our future.
5. Compare and Contrast these two myths to other existing versions on the creation
of mankind.
