HSP 3U/C Unit 8: Behaviour

How do cultural factors influence and shape our behaviour? People’s behaviour has a lot to do
with what they know or what their culture has taught
them. To understand why people behave the way they
do, we must understand their worldview. Worldview is
influenced by our physical environment and our cultural
and social structures, such as marriage, kinship, as well
as political and economic structure.

KEY CONCEPTS:

technological diffusion perception euphemism

reciprocity horticultural redistribution
globalization wage labour potlatch
matrilineal patrilineal bi lineal
lineage clan monogamy
polygamy polygyny meta-analysis
bridewealth polyandry drive-reduction theory
self-enhancement instinct theory negativity bias
intrinsic motivation extrinsic motivation fundamental attribution
cognitive dissonance attribution theory error

READ pp. 216-233 in your unit reading package. Pay careful attention to the sections of
reading on behaviour and attitudes as this will be highly relevant to your final project in this
course.

RE-READ pages 216-219 and CREATE a graphic

organizer which demonstrates the different
explanations provided by Psychology for behaviour.
Make sure to differentiate between biological
explanations (intrinsic theory, drive-reduction
theory) and cognitive explanations (intrinsic
motivation, extrinsic motivation, negativity bias).

when submitting your unit.

TASK 3: CHANGING ATTITUDES: VALUE: Level

RE-READ pp. 221-223 in your unit 8 reading package. Carefully REVIEW Figure 5-23 (pg. 222)
which reviews four distinct theories on how attitudes can be changed in individuals.

Used what you have learned to formulate a well throughout ANSWER to the following question:
