KEEP HOLDING ON
By : Avril Lavigne

Keep Holding On" is a mellow rock song by Avril Lavigne, and is the Original Sound Track
(OST) for the 2006 film Eragon. Written by Avril and produced by Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald. The
strings ‘’
were composed by Patrick Doyle, who wrote the Eragon Soundtrack and others. Keep Holding On
was Avril's first single for the soundtrack and began playing on North American radios in November
2006. This song is also listed as the last track on Avril Lavigne's third album, The Best Damn Thing,
which was released in April 2007. Avril has mentioned that the remainder of her third album will be
filled by another version of "Keep Holding On", but with a faster version. But it turns out the old
version is even better. This song had received positive criticism, Billboard called it a very beautiful
song, where Avril seemed more like leaving her long term.
"Keep Holding On" peaked at #2 for four weeks on the Canadian charts, behind the song
"Say It Right" by Nelly Furtado. It is the best position after his old song "Complicated" which reached
#1 for one week in 2002. This song also managed to occupy the top 20, #17 to be exact, on the
Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the top 10 position on America's Hot Adult 40 Tracks. . This is a
particularly impressive feat, considering that no official music video has been released to promote it.
The song was not released in most European countries, but managed to peak at #9 in Slovakia, #27 in
the Czech Republic, and #32 in Latvia.
The song was included in the Academy Awards shortlist for the "Best Original Single"
category, but did not make it to the final nominations. Also used in the American TV show Ghost
Whisperer in its second finale. It also appears as the last track on Avril's third album, The Best Damn
Thing, which was released on April 17, 2007. Lavigne has described the rest of the album as being
upbeat and heavy in comparison to "Keep Holding On". Originally, a different version was to be
included, but the original version made it instead. The song has been well-received by music critics,
with Billboard describing it as a "gorgeous song" in which Lavigne seems to be "set to remain for the
long term".
