Real time PCR for M. tuberculosis (Xpert MTB/Rif Ultra):

Rifampicin (molecular) Unsuccessful

Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA detected at the lowest level (trace). The

rifampicin testing was unsuccessful. Refer to the TB management guidelines.

A trace result in the Xpert Ultra means that Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB)
DNA has been detected at low levels. In a respiratory specimen from an adult,
this result may represent current active TB disease or previous TB within the
last 5 years. Please correlate this trace result with the clinical condition of
the patient, including HIV status, radiology, and the results of culture and
drug susceptibility testing, which will routinely be performed on the second
submitted specimen in the Western Cape.

For all trace results, there is insufficient MTB in the specimen for the
rifampicin result to be determined. Refer to the results of culture and DST
(LPA) for the rifampicin result.
