COURSE OUTLINE IN HEMATOLOGY 2

(CMO 13 series 2017)

Course Title: HEMATOLOGY 2

Course Credit: 3 units (2 units lecture and 1 unit laboratory)
Contact Hours: Lecture: 2 hours per week (36 hours)
Laboratory: 3 hours per week (54 hours)
Placement: 3rd Year, 2nd Semester
Pre-requisites: Hematology 1

Course Description:

The course deals with the study of the fundamentals, pathophysiology and the mechanism
of coagulation and hemostasis, with emphasis on laboratory diagnostic procedures

Course Outcomes:

At the end of this course, the student should be able to:

1. explain the concepts and principles of primary hemostasis, coagulation and fibrinolysis;
2. demonstrate manual dexterity in the performance of laboratory procedures in evaluating
defects in primary hemostasis, coagulation and fibrinolysis;
3. compare the different tests in primary hemostasis, coagulation and fibrinolysis, as well
as their significance in clinical evaluation;
4. differentiate the pathophysiology of various hematologic and bleeding disorders;
5. evaluate traditional and advanced techniques, and their value, in diagnosis of
hematologic and bleeding disorders; and
6. appreciate the evolution of tests, from traditional to advanced, in the diagnosis of
hematologic and bleeding malignancies.
