LESSON 1
NSTP Act of 2001
R. A. 1963

An Act Establishing the National Service Training Program (NSTP) for Tertiary Level
Students, amending for the Purpose Republic Act No. 7077 and Presidential Decree
No. 1706, and for Other Purposes, or Republic Act No. 9163, was another name for the
National Service Training Program. On January 23, 2002, it was passed into law despite
numerous appeals from opposing groups for its repeal or reform. It cited Article II
(Declaration of Principles and State Policies), Section 2, which declares that "The
primary duty of the government is to serve and protect the people." This constitutional
clause refers to the "obligation of the state to serve and protect its citizens." All citizens
may be obligated, subject to the criteria set forth by law, to provide personal military or
civil service in response to the government's call to defend the state (italics supplied).
The Reserve Officers Training Corps was founded on and has been perpetuated by this
same concept.

The NSTP law's main goal is to enhance young participation in nation-building. As a

result, it tries to motivate young people to join the military, become civic leaders, and/or
serve in other volunteer capacities that could make them available to the country in
times of need.

The NSTP law ensured that the three components - Civic Welfare Service, Literacy
Training Service, and Reserve Officers Training Corps - will be given the same and
equal implementation in educational institutions, unlike the ROTC, which focuses on
military training, and the E-ROTC, which offered three options for students but was
limited in its implementation. Additionally, it specified the various elements, the length of
the training, coverage, etc.
LESSON 2
SURVEY OF FILIPINO VALUES

Filipino Values inform and influence how we work and live. Discover who we really are
and explore opportunities to live and work with us. If you want Filipinos to become
effective, there is no need to supplant Filipino values with western values. Filipinos
already possess admirable values that, when reinforced, will create a great work
culture. Filipino work better when they behave according to their values. Filipinos value
their community. Do not expect them to become a different person when they get inside
your office. Instead, let them bring out their best where they are.

There are more than 7,000 islands in the Philippines, and there is a great and broad
quest for Filipino values. The set of values that the majority of Filipinos have historically
considered significant in their lives is referred to as Filipino values. Every civilization has
it as an essential component. Filipino values in the Philippines define what is good,
useful, beautiful, desired, and many more qualities. Many effects can be traced back to
Filipino values. These may have been impacted by its colonizers or its forebears. Some
values might be good or negative because they are bipolar.

Despite the Filipinos' strong Western influences, Southeast Asian concepts also
dominate their sense of morality. Generally speaking, Filipinos are amiable and peace-
seeking. Family is the most significant thing to them. Honor, group cohesion, diplomacy,
excellent behavior, public regard, civility, tolerance, and good manners are further
Filipino virtues.
LESSON 3
VOTER’S EDUCATION PROGRAM

Voter education refers to educating voters on the fundamentals of taking part in

elections. Political neutrality is crucial since voter education is frequently given by the
state, frequently through a national electoral commission. Voter education-related
government agencies frequently come under intense scrutiny from outside sources.
Additionally, there are numerous private organizations whose goal is to promote voter
education in order to strengthen democratic values. Instead of whom to vote for, the
emphasis is frequently on how to vote.

The voter education program also involves interacting with the general public at
regional gatherings and discussions. These public gatherings, which follow the town hall
format, enable the Institute to interact directly with residents, regional decision-makers,
and local leaders. These events, which the Institute sponsors, urged attendees to
support sensible policy reforms at the municipal and county levels.

The Voters Education program under NSTP is significant in that it may teach students,
in particular, how to vote legally and carefully choose a leader for the nation. Second, it
will give voters more confidence to cast their ballot and a feeling of ease with the voting
process. Third, it is a means of educating voters and students about the voting process,
and fourth, it serves to compel voters and members of the community to register and
cast ballots during the election.
PRELIM ACTIVITY
POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE FILIPINO VALUES

As you can see from the photo above we are doing the positive and negative traits of
the Filipino people. Filipinos have positive traits that mark us as one of the most
commendable people on earth. The following good habits make the Filipinos great people
and the Philippines an abundant country. Hospitability is one of the popular traits of
Filipinos. We are usually friendly and welcoming to our guests. And also not all of us are
perfect we all have negative traits that we are still doing for example when someone
celebrates a birthday, graduation, or winning the lotto in the neighborhood, the party lasts
through deep in the night, keeping neighbors awake by the noise of an out-of-tune
videoke singer. This is one of the most negative traits that we are doing as Filipinos our
bad habits don’t seem to change for the better. We should be more concerned about
what’s going on in our own backyard for the sake of everyone.
LESSON 4
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

Understanding natural environment protection and behaviors that can affect the
ecosystem is known as environmental awareness. Maybe some of you have seen
posters, ads, and the like carrying the exhortation ''Go, Green!'' But, what does it mean
to ''go green''? It takes a variety of forms, but essentially, going green means being
mindful of the natural environment and making economic choices that aren't harmful to
the earth. For example, this might mean purchasing a glass or ceramic water bottle
instead of using disposable plastic water bottles. Plastic takes an incredibly long time to
break down, and a significant percentage of plastic makes it to the oceans, where it kills
plant and animal life. Going green might also involve using an all-natural hair-care
product, instead of a can of aerosol spray containing toxic chemicals.

When people ''go green,'' they are practicing environmental awareness. The term
means exactly what you expect to be aware of the natural environment and make
choices that benefit--rather than hurt--the earth. In recent years, environmental
awareness has gained increased attention. It is fair to say it has become a bit of a trend:
from environmentally friendly tiny homes to organic food, environmental awareness is a
hot topic. However, it is nothing new and it ought to be more than just a passing fad
because of its importance.
LESSON 5
PDEA

My observations on this topic are that drugs have a significant impact on our lives,
particularly on our bodies. If used excessively, they can lead to long-term health issues
like cancer. People who use drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes always find a method to
obtain these substances, and if they are unable to do so, they may resort to doing bad
things in order to do so.

Drugs should be avoided because they are harmful to our families, communities, and
ourselves. Because it harms our health, we should stay away from persons and
locations where drugs and alcohol are available. occupying your time with pursuits like
exercise and spending time with friends and acquaintances who abstain from drug and
alcohol use. For drug users who desire to address or recover from their drug or alcohol
addiction, there are also rehabilitation facilities.

We had no idea when our lives would end, and in my experience, having these illnesses
may be fatal. People suffer from situations they never expected to happen, but people
are the only reason why they suffer from that kind of situation, so even though we can
make it work for the Day and adopting a healthy lifestyle is not enough for us,
sometimes we attend to make things that are not aligned on our plan in Life.
LESSON 5
DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT

Disaster risk reduction is a policy goal that aims to anticipate and reduce risk (DRR).
Disaster risk management (DRM), which is frequently used synonymously with DRR,
can be thought of as DRR in action because it details the steps taken to achieve the
goal of lowering risk. While dealing with disasters historically centered on emergency
response, it became increasingly apparent toward the end of the 20th century that
disasters are not natural (even though the associated hazard is) and that the only way
to stop losses and lessen the effects of disasters is by reducing and managing
conditions of hazard, exposure, and vulnerability. Since we cannot lessen how severe
natural disasters are, limiting susceptibility and exposure offers the best chance of
lowering risk.

Reducing these two risk factors necessitates identifying and addressing their underlying
causes, which are in particular related to unwise economic and urban development
decisions and practices, environmental degradation, poverty and inequality, and climate
change, all of which exacerbate and create hazardous, exposed, and vulnerable
conditions. By addressing these underlying risk factors, disaster risk will be decreased,
climate change effects will be mitigated, and development will continue to be
sustainable.

DRR is a part of sustainable development, so it must involve every part of society,

government, non-governmental organizations, and the professional and private sectors.
It, therefore, requires a people-centered and multi-sector approach, building resilience
to multiple, cascading, and interacting hazards and creating a culture of prevention and
resilience.
MIDTERM ACTIVITY
ADVOCACY VIDEO ON ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
PRESERVATION/AWARENESS

“It is our collective and individual responsibility, to preserve and tend

to the world in which we all live.”
SEMI-FINAL ACTIVITY
MANGROVE PLANTING

This activity was held on November 19, 2022, at Baluan General Santos City. It was
my first experience planting mangroves and I take pride in what we did since given that
short amount of time, somehow, we are able to contribute to the preservation of Mother
Earth. I personally enjoyed the fact that each participant did his/her part despite the
hazy seawater and the squishy mud. I acknowledge everyone’s eagerness to plant for
the benefit of the residents in the area and of the environment.

I believe that we should really take care of the environment, as cliché as it sounds. We
need to make simple efforts just as mangrove planting or any other simple actions for
Mother Earth because, through these simple efforts, a huge difference could occur one
single tree times seven billion people in the whole world is more than enough to save
the environment.
