(DENIED OF THE FUTURE)

A productive community gives birth to various arts that become the vehicle of communication within it. Attached to this
art is language and culture which cannot be separated either. The person, as a unit of the community also has a role to
play here. There are a few who become productive but it is also inevitable that there are also some who are simply
"cannon shot" if considered. Productivity as associated with the word activism simply proves that the living person is an
active member of a community. And with the word active, action and change are needed here.

It cannot be denied that the people of our country possess various talents and arts that can be proud of
anywhere in the world. Many times other countries have been impressed by the talents shown by Filipinos, especially in
the field of music. Even the famous singers and songwritersin other countries are accelerating and believe in the
excellence of Filipinos in singing. Some songs written and sung by a Pinoy are also recognized in other countries. One of
the beloved arts in our country is the art of music that we present to the world. But, remember that art, according to Dr.
Balagot (2016), is only a reflection of the particular culture of a particular community. So it can also be said, that art,
even collective, is not universal. You cannot say that the message of a song is universally understood, if it is not
experienced as a whole. Like the message that different singers and songwriters in the country want to float, there are
different subjects and grievances, there are different actions and changes.

Since then, several musicians have become known for their patriotic advocacy. They see songwriting as a way to
make their listeners aware of reality. The 70's is the period that we consider to be stamped in history, because of the
EDSA Revolution which is a symbol of mass action for change. Since then, the scope of the so-called action for change or
activism has increased even more. This concept revolves not only in the matter of workers, but also in students and also
in ordinary housewives. It can be said that it had a great impact on the Filipino race, because it added the concept of
courage for us. Aside from that, We also had different ways to show our action for the change and development we are
fighting for. One of them is the writing of struggle songs, which are still enjoyed by a few but not by the majority.

Gary Gamutan Granada is one of the icons that can be considered when it comes to OPM. His name became
popular in the 80s, due to the songs he wrote that had a political theme. He is also one of the biggest fans of the
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel team in the basketball league, and he has also done a few songs for the team. He became
known, not only because of his good singing, but even his song has a good and meaningful message. His songs are
classified in the folk rock genre . Not a few are obsessed with this genre , but when compared to love songsof the past,
there is no denying that the stories that love songs convey are superior. Sad but in reality, few appreciate the songs that
belong to the so-called folk rock .
