Effectiveness of Online Learning Tools as Platform in the Academic

Performance of Grade 11 Student’s in Bauan Technical High School

Statement of the Problem

The Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on every part of our


lives,including how we learn.The government’s strict restrictions and health
procedures have resulted in the shutdown of schools and institutions.As a result,we
learn in a different way.It modernizes and alters our educational system,moving
from traditional classroom to virtual classrooms.
According to Lohmann(2020),the closures during the COVID-19
pandemic have led many school systems to find innovative ways to reach and
teach their students. One of the primary ways that's being done is through virtual,
or online, education. It means that the use of different online learning tools as
platforms became the new normal.. The rise of online learning began and the need
for online learning tools has increased over the past year
As the post-pandemic era approaches, many COVID related
implementations, such as social distancing and masks, will slowly disappear.
However, effective online learning tools will always be in demand. According to
(McBrien et al. 2009), rapid developments in technology have made distance
education easy.
These online learning tools have features that allow teachers and
students to manage documents and convert files, collect and annotate online
articles, and edit videos. This makes the study process much faster and easier for
them and helps them easily find what they need. Teachers also use these
applications, such as assessment software, to see how well their students are doing
and areas where they might need improvement, so they can easily identify student
weaknesses..
Students' learning efficiency varies depending on how they learn.
Situation like when pupils are relaxed, they learn and remember more; lowering
stress improves learning and retention. Other students learn best when they are
presented with unique situations, resources, and teaching methodologies, or when
they participate actively in the learning process. It could also be the efficient
learning that occurs when pupils receive immediate and detailed feedback on their
work.
In order to know how successful and valuable the various online
learning tools are in improving the academic performance of students, the purpose
of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of online learning tools as platform
in the academic performance of students at Bauan Technical Integrated High
School.

Statistical tools used

The statistical tools used by the researchers are the following:

1. Simple random sampling is a randomly selected subset of the population. With


this sampling method, all members of the population are likely to be selected. This
method was used to determine the sample size of the study.

3.Weighted Mean is an average calculated by giving different weights to some of


the individual values. It is defined as an average calculated by giving different

responses provided by the respondents during the data collection process.

n = number of respondents

4. 4-Point Likert Scale was used to measure the respondents’ agreement to the
questions and statements. It is a psychometric scale widely used in studies that use
questionnaires.

5.Verbal Interpretation means the systematic discovery of the literal sense of


recorded language.The literal sense is the meaning which follows naturally from the
words themselves,taken singly and in groups.

6. Ranking is a relationship between a set of items such that,for any two


items,the first is either greater than,less than,or equal to the second value.
