What is Question 2?

As we’ve mentioned in Lesson 11, Question 2 is usually about the candidate’s

opinion on the topic of the passage in Task 1. This is totally different from
Question 1. Question 1 is based on the passage itself completely, while
Question 2 requires you to respond with your own experience and idea.

Example

• Which city in China do you like most? And why?

• Why do you think festivals are important events in the working year?

against the English. Finally, in 1921, the British government was forced to give
independence to the south of Ireland. The result is that today Northern Ireland, in the
north, is part of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, in the south, is an
independent country.

The feeling of culture shock generally sets in after the first few weeks of coming to a new
place. We can describe culture shock as the physical and emotional discomfort one suffers
when coming to live in another country or a place different from the place of origin. Often,
the way that we lived before is not accepted as or considered as normal in the new place.

Question 2: How can old traditions be kept alive?

Traditions can be kept alive by keeping practicing and performing them. Celebrating
traditional festivals and keeping traditional customs are two effective methods. They
should not only be practiced, but also be taught to children. Passing them on from
generation to generation is the most important part.
