General Instructions:
1. Please submit your answer with complete solution in a white bond paper.
2. Submission will be on Saturday, May 27,2023. In hard copy / printed copy

I. PROBLEM SOLVING.

1. The pump brake power to draw 50 lps of water (SG= 0.98) from reservoir A, with static suction lift of 5m, to
reservoir B, with static discharge head of 15m. The pipe suction line is a 6 inches nominal diameter, and 80m
long. The pipe in the discharge side is a 4 inches nominal diameter and 150m long. The fittings and valves
installed in the suction line are one foot valve, one standard elbow, and one gate valve fully open , and in the
discharge line are one check valve, one gate valve (fully open) and two standard elbows. Assume an overall
pump efficiency is 82%. Average relative roughness for cast iron of 0.25mm and absolute viscosity of water
of 0.01 poise. Considering the head losses in fittings and valves.

Determine the ff.

i. Determine the pump brake power. (5PTS.)
ii. Reading of the pressure gauge installed at the suction flanged of the pump. (5PTS.)
iii. Reading of the pressure gauge installed at the discharge flange of the pump. (5PTS.)

Estimated value for valves and fittings:

Suction:
Long sweep elbow = 3m
Gate Valve (Fully open) = 1m

Discharge:
Check Valve = 7m
Gate Valve (Fully open) = 0.7m
Standard Elbow = 3m
