• Project Title:
Preparing community latrine facility
Hypertension screening campaign
Project Area: At Jajura town
Project Duration: July 20- august 08, 2023
Project implementing body: WCU, Graduating Medicine and Health Science students in
collaboration jajura town health administrative office.
Project Budget: 25,020ETB Source Group members, Health admin office, community and

Introduction
Background
In Ethiopia, non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus have begun
to emerge as the leading causes of hospital admissions, morbidity, and mortality in Health
facilities located around the nation. A 2016 report by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute
(EPHI) found that 95% of Ethiopian adult populations have 1 to 2 risk factors for Non-
communicable diseases. But there was little information on the extent and risk factors for
hypertension at the community level in Ethiopia, including the Addis Ababa [1]. Also as we
were seen there is a gap in jajura town on screening hypertensive patients. Thus, this study aimed
to identify the prevalence of hypertension among adults in jajura town.
About 39% of the world population does not have access to improved sanitation and open
defecation is largely a rural phenomenon, most widely practiced in Southern Asian and Sub-
Saharan Africa. Sub-Saharan countries, including Ethiopia are considered to be the home 81% of
open defecation. Even though Ethiopia has achieved greater progress in reduction of open
defecation from 93 to 45% at national level and from 100 to 53% in rural areas, there is poor
latrine utilization among individual and families in some communities and 38.1 million people
still practice open defecation [3]
According to our means we were planned to construct 1 public latrine and achieved 2 public
latrines to decrease open defecation in communities.

10.2. Hypertension Screening Result

On our hypertension screening campaign we were planned to screen 150 persons for
hypertension but we were screened more than 200 persons from those we were screened for
HTN more than half of them were free from hypertension generally we were educated more 200
peoples about hypertension and how they prevent themselves from hypertension in addition to
this specifically advice had been given for 28 elevated BP peoples, we were advised 7 persons to
visit HC. Also we advised the 2nd stage known hypertensive persons to start medication.
Generally we got the following findings from the campaigns.
