INDIGENOUS PEOPLES EDUCATION

2024 ACTION PLAN FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES EDUCATION (IPEd)

Goal: Enhance the quality of education and promote cultural preservation for
Indigenous Peoples in the Misamis Oriental Division.

Objective 1: Assessment and Cultural Mapping

1. Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the educational needs, challenges, and


opportunities specific to Indigenous communities within the division.
2. Collaborate with local Indigenous leaders and elders to create a cultural map that
identifies key cultural practices, traditions, and values that should be integrated
into the educational curriculum.

Objective 2: Curriculum Development and Adaptation

1. Develop a culturally sensitive curriculum that integrates traditional knowledge,


language, and practices while aligning with national education standards.
2. Collaborate with Indigenous elders and experts to design supplementary
teaching materials that reflect the unique culture and history of the local
Indigenous communities.
3. Implement a pilot program to test the effectiveness of the new curriculum and
gather feedback from teachers, students, and parents.

Objective 3: Teacher Training and Capacity Building

1. Organize training workshops for teachers to increase their cultural competence


and sensitivity when working with Indigenous students.
2. Provide specialized training for teachers on how to effectively integrate
Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods into the curriculum.
3. Establish a mentorship program where experienced educators support and guide
teachers in delivering culturally appropriate lessons.
Objective 4: Infrastructure and Resource Improvement

1. Identify schools in Indigenous communities that require infrastructure upgrades


and prioritize their improvement to provide a conducive learning environment.
2. Develop a resource-sharing system that ensures schools in Indigenous
communities have access to relevant teaching materials, technology, and learning
resources.

Objective 5: Community Engagement and Participation

1. Hold regular meetings and dialogues with Indigenous community leaders,


parents, and stakeholders to ensure their active participation in decision-making
processes related to education.
2. Establish a parent-teacher association specifically for Indigenous communities to
facilitate communication and collaboration between parents and educators.

Objective 6: Cultural Events and Celebrations

1. Organize cultural events and celebrations that showcase Indigenous traditions,


arts, and crafts, fostering a sense of pride and identity among Indigenous
students.
2. Integrate Indigenous cultural festivals and activities into the school calendar to
provide opportunities for students to connect with their heritage.

Objective 7: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

1. Implement a regular monitoring and evaluation system to assess the progress of


the action plan's implementation and make necessary adjustments.
2. Prepare periodic reports detailing the achievements, challenges, and lessons
learned from the action plan's execution.

Objective 8: Sustainability and Collaboration

1. Seek partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, and private sector


organizations to leverage additional resources and support for Indigenous
education initiatives.
2. Develop a sustainability plan that ensures the continuation of the action plan's
goals beyond 2024, with a focus on building local capacity and ownership.
By addressing these objectives, the Misamis Oriental Division can work towards
providing an inclusive, culturally sensitive, and high-quality education for Indigenous
Peoples while preserving and celebrating their rich cultural heritage.
