Barbara Ward once said: “We have forgotten how to be good guests, how to walk lightly on the

earth as its other creatures do.” The environment has a great importance for humanity, providing
people with all the necessities of life. Unfortunately, nowadays, the environment is becoming
increasingly polluted. Thus, in order to stop this destructive process, people should realize the existence
of the major problem of pollution and become eco-friendly citizens, which present a multitude of
positive aspects on the environment.

To begin with, becoming eco-friendly citizens presents a wide range of advantages and can
totally solve the ecological problem of the 21st century. One of the benefits that eco-friendly citizens
can have on the environment is the reduction of soil, water and air pollution, due to the use of
ecological products. Additionally, another significant advantage would be the elimination of
photochemical smog, which dominates the environment of the 21st century and which is very harmful
to human health. Moreover, eco-friendly citizens can help reduce natural disasters, such as fires, caused
by global warming. A relevant example would be replacing non-degradable plastic bags with eco-bags
that reduce soil pollution. Another prolific example would be the use of hydrogen powered cars that do
not emit exhaust gases harmful to the atmosphere. Hence, being eco-friendly citizens can considerably
improve the “health” of the environment.

It is my opinion that environmental literacy should be developed in society, because it is crucial

for people to know how important it is to protect the environment and to take measures to keep it safe.
Therefore, the protection of nature plays an important role in people's lives, providing them with the
necessary conditions for survival.

All things considered, environmental culture should be developed in modern society, as it is the
key to a healthy environment for the harmonious development of humanity.
