1 Key dates
Centres should check the dates for oral and practical tests, which will fall outside the main written
examination paper series, well in advance. These dates can be found on the relevant timetable.
2 Entry Procedures
Pearson Edexcel AS and A Level qualifications are not available in all countries. If you are not in the
UK please check with your Regional Development Manager before starting teaching an AS and A Level
course.

from the A level Chinese subject page of our website, under 'Forms and administration'. The window in
which to conduct the oral assessments in centres is within a prescribed five-week assessment period.

Notes: Centres conducting Paper 3: Speaking must be fully conversant with the Administrative Support
Guide – Conducting Speaking Assessments. This is available to download from the A level French
subject page on our website, under 'Forms and administration'. The window in which to conduct the
oral assessments in centres is within a prescribed five-week assessment period. This will take place in
April and May in any single year.
An entry for option B does not automatically entitle the centre to a visiting examiner. In instances
where a Visiting Examiner cannot be assigned, it will be centre's responsibility to source a suitable
examiner to conduct speaking examinations. In accordance with Pearson's Safeguarding Children and
Vulnerable Adults Policy, it is the centre’s duty to provide a responsible adult to chaperone the visiting
examiner for the duration of the oral examination.
If a responsible adult is not available, the oral examination cannot take place. The policy is available at
qualifications.pearson.com/studentpolicy
Candidates who wish to resit the A level French qualification will be required to redo all written
components (Papers 1 and 2) but may carry forward their speaking assessment (Paper 3) from the
previous series.

Papers 1, 2 and 3 are grouped together in eight 'routes' in which options are linked by a common
theme. Each of these routes comprises a mandatory Paper 1, a choice of two options for Paper 2 of
which candidates take only one, and a choice of options for Paper 3 of which candidates take only one.
