CHAPTER III

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY

This chapter of the study presents the Production process, Service process,

Business Location, Plan layout, Operation size and schedule, Equipment, Raw

material, Supplies and Inventories, Furniture and Fixtures, Utilities, Rent and

Advertising.

A business of any kind is considered to be technically and operationally

feasible if it has the necessary expertise, infrastructure and capital to operate and

maintain the proposed system, and that by establishing such system, the business will

be able to render products and services at a profit.

Production Process

Step-by-step procedure

1. Natural Heat / Sun Drying

Left out in the sun for 5-7 days, water hyacinth stems will be perfectly dried.

Longer than the number of days stated above is not recommended since the stems

could get too dried and damaged.

2.Coloring / Tinting

Natural golden brown is the color that dried water hyacinth fiber tends to have.

Although there’s nothing wrong with the color nature gives it, it could become much

more colorful with the help of dyes. Due to the natural grease on water hyacinth skin,

it requires a lot of heat for the dye to penetrate into the stems, hence hot boiling water

is needed in this process.

Quickly boiled in a hot boiling water mixed with the selected dye could yield

in some colorful water hyacinth stems, which leads to even more wonderful creations.

3. Machinery

There are only a few machines included in the processes of production, which

are rolling machines and cutting machines. Both machines are used in the stage of

preparing dried water hyacinth stems in order to make them flat and uniformly length

which makes it easier to weave and yields more beautiful results.

The rolling machine consists of two cylindrical rollers which flatten the water

hyacinth stem as they pass through. While cutting is used to trim the stems to a

uniform size, both width and length. In the case of absence, a knife or scissors be used

instead of the cutting machine.

4. Making Craft Patterns

After we get dry it, we make the craft pattern that we want to make. This

pattern is to facilitate the manufacture of a product. If there is already a pattern, our

work will be easier, just follow the pattern.

5. Hand Weaving / 3D Weaving

Since Ban-Aoy is a handicraft group, all of the products produced by the

group are hand made by its members. Thousands of water hyacinth products here are

made by hand weaving. As mentioned before, water hyacinth stem is tough yet

flexible, it can be weaved into any forms according to molds.

Various weaving patterns can be done by the hands of skillful group members

who weave water hyacinth stems by hand. Each weaving pattern would require

different types of dried stem, or fiber, they are also weaved in different ways to

achieve the unique looks.

6. Sewing / Needlework

After successfully woven, the products could go through sewing process to

match them up with fabric of choice. This process is basically needlework which

could be done by both hand and sewing machine. Most of the time the fabric is lined

inside the products, handbags, while the water hyacinth fiber is left alone as outer

material. A zipper could be applied in this stage as well. [

7. Finishing / Varnish Coating

It really depends on customers’ preferences how the products should be finished.

Some may prefer natural appearance without any extra coat, while some may prefer a

little bit extra shiny gloss. This is where varnish oil coating comes into play. By

applying a few thin coats of varnish oil on water hyacinth fiber, such products would

have more shiny finish which would preserve the appearance longer as well as

provide more anti-fungal property.

Selling Process

Greet the customer(s) politely and give them a warm smile. Greeting a

customer(s) upon reaching the store, it open the lines of communication.

Customer(s) feel at ease asking questions and obtaining product information.

This gives an opportunity to explain the product features. As soon as the

customer(s) arrives at the store, the customer(s) will be greeted politely with a

warm smile.
Take the order of the customer(s). Ask the customer(s) what they want to

order/buy.

Prepare and get the order of the customer(s).

Get the payment of the customer(s). Calculate the total amount of the

customer’s order and tell them for the computed total amount.

Giving the customer’s order. Provide the customer’s order together with its

change if there is any.

Say “Thank you” and lastly bid a good bye. Appreciating customer(s) is a

sign of respect. It shows the customer that they are a valuable component of

your company and that you value the time, effort, and decisions they have

made leading up to the engagement. Being humble by thanking the customers

is a gesture of politeness.
Business Location

The business will be located at Brgy. Pantal, Dagupan City. The researchers

chose Dagupan City as the main location for the business since it is where the raw

materials will come from, and where the production will take place. It can be easily

reached and very accessible in any points. Hence, it is said to be ideal and strategic.

Having a business location is one of the researchers’ business strategies for

making the company more profitable. Having a good location is advantageous in any

industry.
