language when expressing my following to improve myself/ I ideas because.../ I am Confident did the following to improve in using the English language myself. because.. 1. Wordwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications interagration. 2. Shrinking of the world into a village by electronic technology. 3. Speedy movement of information to different places. In communication, globalization would mean increase in the social connectedness or the expansion on one’s social community. The ability to send messages across cultures through the four macro skills ( Ex. Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing) and the use of Non- verbal communication. Cultural Diversity refers to the people from different cultures or nations respecting each other’s differences. This respect of differences is a result of their understanding of the cultural dfferences they have; how people process communication; the way other people speak; and how these people see and understand the world around them Communication styles can also be: 1. Direct or Indirect. It is a direct communication style if messages reveal the speakers’s true intention or not. 2. Self-enhancing or self-effacing. Self -enhancing communication style if the messages promotes positive aspects of self. On the other hand, self-effacing if the message deemphasizes aspect of self. 3. Elaborated or Understated. Elaborated Communicatioon style if there is a use of rich expressions and understated if there is an extensive use of silence, pauses, and understatements. Communicating in a Multi-Cultural Setting
Multi-cultural setting, is a reality in most
industries at present that we have to accept. This communication is connot be envaded anymore especially if you will be working in a company that has a diverse workforce. What is intercultural communication It is a sharing of meaning with receiving and interpreting ideas from people whose cultural background is different from yours. 1. Interracial communication is the interaction among people of different races. Ex. A tourist guide conducting a tour for a group of people with different nationalities. 2. Inter-ethnic communication in the interaction among people of different ethnic groups.. Ex. A group of social workers educating the members of the tribes from Baguio about the benefits that the government allotted to them. 3. International communication is the interaction between persons representing different political structures. Ex. The president of the parliamentary government meeting the president of the democratic government. 4. Intra-cultural communication is the interaction that includes all forms of communication among members of the same racial, rthnic, and subculture groups. Ex. The head of the Manobo tribe meeting his constituents.
