BUSLAW1001: Business Law (3 semester credits)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental aspects of law in business. Specifically,
students will learn about the sources of law and methods of litigation in the United States, the laws governing
corporations and other business entities, the bases of liability in contracts and torts, and the role of businesses
in property and agency law.

COURSE EFFECTIVE DATES: June 2023 - Present

PREREQUISITES: No prerequisites; prior completion of Introduction to Business is recommended.

LENGTH OF COURSE: This is a self-paced course. Students may use as much or as little time as needed to
complete the course.

ACE CREDIT® RECOMMENDATION: In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3

semester hours in Business Law (6/23).

GRADING: This is a pass/fail course. Students must complete 11 Challenges (formative assessments), 4
Milestones (summative assessments), and 1 Touchstone (project-based or written assessment) with an overall
score of 70% or better.

demonstrate application of knowledge. Read further for information on the touchstones in this course:

Touchstone 2: Did Jim and Laura Buy a Car? (100 points): In three to five (3-5) pages, students will advise
on a given scenario and the material covered in the lessons. In the paper, students will define the
elements of a legal contract using examples from the scenario where applicable, decide whether or not
there was a contract, identify the facts from the scenario which support their decision on whether or not a
contract exists, and use at least two quality academic resources in this assignment.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
