Psychology as a Field

Psychology is an extensive field of study which contributed to the developmental understanding of the
human mind and behavior. For most times, there is an existing confusion on what are disparities and
relation between Psychiatry and Psychology as the two are oftentimes mistaken for each other.
However, the two branches of study are not afar in terms of focusing on the mind.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who oversee medications, diagnose mental illnesses and prescribe
treatments through the process of therapies, mental procedures, and interventions. Psychiatrists
specialize in mental health which may include substance use triggers and disorders influenced by drugs.
They have the expertise in assessing both physical and psychological problems in patients. Psychologists,
on the other hand, are responsible for adapting Psychotherapy to aid their patients. They dwell on the
emotional, behavioral, social, and cognitive aspects of their patients and interpret them on a
psychological level.

Psychology is integral in pursuing a career as a Psychiatrist and Psychologist because it serves as a


gateway to the introduction of the concepts of mind and behavior. Considering the field of Psychology
as a whole, it is subdivided into different branches which include developmental psychology,
environmental psychology, cognitive psychology, biological biology, and a long list proceeds. This affirms
that it is a broad area of study which requires immense research and continuous learning. Moreover,
Psychology is considered to be a field of science that underlines the border of Natural Science and Social
Science. Applying psychology as a psychiatrist implies the adaption of empirical methods in conjuring
diagnosis and cultivating developmental results. It is basically the study of the mind manifested in the
science of behavior. It is also apparent that before someone proceeds in the study of Psychiatry as a
specialized field in medicine, a professional must be introduced first in the concepts of science through
immersion in introductory degrees, this arrows Psychology as an effective and substantial branch of
knowledge that oversees the similar concepts in Psychiatry.
