A. Watch the "Cell Theory" video that tells about the story of the discovery of the cell. Take note of the
scientists and their respective works. Choose from the box the name of the scientist who was credited
for each of the following discoveries.

1. The thousands of tiny empty chambers in a cork are called cells (1665).

Robert Hooke- He observed the cells in a cork slice with

the help of a primitive microscope.

2. Tiny living organisms can be observed (1676).

Anton van Leeuwenhoek – The first to observe under a

microscope the structure of red blood cell of
different animals as well as a sperm cell.

3. All plants are made up of cells (1838).

Matthias Schleiden- Concluded that all plant parts are made of cells.
4. All animals are made up of cells (1839).

Theodor Schwann- A close friend of Schleiden, and stated that

all animals tissues are composed of cells to.

5. All cells come from pre-existing cells (1858).

Rudolf Virchow- Concluded that all cells come from pre-existing cells.

B. Complete the three basic components of the cell theory by arranging these words in proper order.
Give a short explanation for every proposition.

1. All living organisms are composed of one or more cells.

- An organism can be unicellular (one-celled) or multicellular.
2. The cell is the basic units of life.
-  Because all cells are surrounded by a structure called the cell membrane — which,
much like the walls of a house, serves as a clear boundary between the cell's internal
and external environments.
3. All cells come from pre-existing cells.
-  because all cells are surrounded by a structure called the cell membrane —
which, much like the walls of a house, serves as a clear boundary between the
cell's internal and external environments.Signifies that cells cannot be spontaneously
created but will always be a product of reproduction from a pre-existing cell.
