Tell Me Lies
A Warmer

 Say a sentence which is not true for you


e.g.: I talk to aliens every day.
I fly a plane once a week. I watch TV once a year. I never play
computer games. My father cooks dinner every day. Etc.

 Make up sentences about yourself following the pattern:


I usually play in the afternoon but now I’m reading a book.
I often go to the cinema but today I’m going to the theatre.
My mom usually goes to work by train but today she is going by
bike.
I often swim in the pool but now I am swimming in the lake. Etc.

A true story
Well, I get up at 7 o'clock every morning and
have a cup of coffee.
I usually read a newspaper in the morning.
After that I take my pet crocodile for a walk.
Then I have breakfast and go to work.
At work I first sit at my computer
and check my e-mails.
After that I play mini-golf in my office.
At lunch time I go to the cafeteria and have my lunch there.
After lunch I sometimes phone the President of the USA
to tell him a new joke.
I do some work on my computer and have a meeting afterwards.
When I come home from work, I make dinner for my family.
Twice a week we have vegetables for dinner and three times a week
we eat fish or eggs.
Sometimes we eat a rat burger, too.
In the evening I often read a book or write short stories.
I am writing one at the moment.
All my stories are true. Believe it or not, this one is too.

2 Procedure

A. Warmer

Introduce more time adverbials into the lesson and explain their position in a sentence.
Show the purple chart to your students and explain the difference between the usage
of present simple and continuous. After that, ask them to use the new adverbials in the
sentences they are supposed to make up. Encourage them to tell lies or make up funny
sentences to be able to speak more freely.

B. Vocabulary and Grammar

First, ask your students about different jobs they have heard of. Ask them about their
parents’ jobs as well. After that read the jobs in the box and talk about them. Let your
students add some more jobs to the list if they want to.

Before doing the exercise remind them of the difference between Present Simple and
Present Continuous and their usage.
