Philosophical Statement

Ever since I was little, I have always had a strong passion for sports. Whether it started out as a tee ball
game, flag football, soccer games with little pug goals, or just a basketball game on a little tike’s hoop, I have
always found an interest in sports. I grew to love these sports and I am forever grateful to the recreation councils in
my community that gave me these opportunities. As a young recreational sports management major, I now can sit
back and see the true impact that these events have had on my life. I believe in the power of sports and recreation to
enhance individuals' lives, foster community, and promote overall well-being.
Sports have a great effect on many people’s lives in different ways. Sports can be a way to relax, compete,
or create revenue. Many people rely on athletic recreation as a time to get away from life. Escape the real world for
a few hours and just have fun. Others may see it as a time to work on their craft and challenge themselves. No matter
the level of competition, I believe in providing everyone with a chance to participate. Recreation should be inclusive
and involve anyone that wants a chance to compete at any level.
Not only do sports have a positive effect on many people’s lives, but they also promote a sense of
community. As a former athlete myself, I can proudly say that some of my best friendships have come from sports.
There is a special bond that is made when you compete with someone and that will never change. Sports also
promote a sense of community between fanbases, which is great for a city. There is no better feeling than seeing
someone else repping your hometown team. Sports have been creating friendships and a sense of community for
many years and will continue to do so forever.
Lastly, sports also promote a sense of well-being. Recreational sports allow someone to stay
physically active while having fun with people. Many people struggle to stay physically active, and I think that
through recreational activities I can give someone an outlet to positively maintain their body. Sports also can give
someone a sense of self accomplishment. Many athletes train and work hard so it makes sense that they feel good
about themselves when they perform well or win. The feeling of sense accomplishment cannot be matched, and I
think that sports is an easy gateway to help build mental health. I believe that my enthusiasm is contagious and that
it can inspire others to lead active, fulfilling lives.
In summary, my philosophy as a recreational sports management student is rooted in the belief that sports
and recreation have the power to transform lives and communities. I am committed to promoting inclusivity, well-
being and personal growth while staying adaptable and innovative in this ever-evolving field. My goal is to use this
passion to help benefit the lives of others through the use of recreational sports management.
