Q.2 A xenon compound 'A' upon partial hydrolysis gives XeO2F2. The number of lone
pair of electrons present in compound A is _________. (Round off to the Nearest
Integer)
18th March Evening Shift 2021

Numerical Answer Key

1. Ans. (3)
2. Ans. (1)

Numerical Explanation
Ans 1. Except F and At, all other halide can form Halic (V) acid.
F cannot go in +5 oxidation state.
At is radioactive.
The number of halogen forming halic (V) acid
HClO3
HBrO3
HIO3
So answer is 3
Ans 2. XeF6 on partial hydrolysis form XeO2F2.

In XeF6, central atom Xe has one lone pair all 6 fluorine have 3 lone pairs each.
So, total number of lone pair on XeF6 = 1 + (6 × 3) = 19

MCQ Explanation

Ans 1. Stability of oxides of Halogens is

I > Cl > Br

Ans 2. Oxides of nitrogen and sulphur are acidic and settle down on ground as dry
deposition.
Ammonium salts in rain drops result in wet deposition.
Ans 3.

Dichromate ion contain non-linear symmetrical Cr-O-Cr bond.

Ans 4. Elements of group 7, 8, 9 do not form hydrides thus Cr will only form hydride
among the given elements (Fe, Mn, Co)

Ans 5.

So order of oxidation state

a>d>c>b>e

Ans 6.

Ans 7. CuSO4.5H2O ⇒ [Cu(H2O)4]SO4.H2O

In CuSO4.5H2O, Cu is co-ordinated with 4 water molecule and two more oxygen atom
from sulphate ion and fifth water molecule is hydrogen bonded.
So secondary valency = 4
No. of hydrogen bond per molecule = 1
Ans 8.

Statement-2 :
KMnO4 ⇒ Mn7+ ⇒ Diamagnetic.
KMnO4 ⇒ Mn6+ ⇒ Paramagnetic.

Ans 9. Lindlar's catalyst ⇒ Pd/CaCO3 + (CH3COO)2 Pb + quinolene

Ans 10. A : Due to inert pair effect, Tl is more stable in +1 oxidation state
Hence TlI3 and CSI3 are isomorphous
R : Electronic configuration of Tl (81) = [Xe] 4f14 5d10 6s2 6p1
Both A and R are correct but R is not the correct explanation of A.

Ans 11. Nd (60) = 4f4 6s2

Pr (59) = 4f3 6s2
Dy (66) = 4f10 6s2
Yb (70) = 4f14 6s2
Yb+2 has fully-filled 4f orbital, it will require very large amount of energy to reach +4
oxidation state.
