Dissimilar Rational Expression

are rational expression that has different denominators, they are much more complex to
combine them.

Similar Rational Expressions

are rational expressions that has the same denominator, no matter how different their
numerators. They can easily combine whether it is addition or subtraction.

Example1:

and , are similar even the y in numerator has power of 2, since their denominator
is similar.
Example 2:

and , these two again is still similar different numerator, but still the
denominator is still similar.

Note: We can Easily combine Similar rational expression whether its addition or subtraction.
Adding and Subtracting Similar Rational Algebraic Expression.
Rational Algebraic expression is said to be similar if they have the same denominator.
To add or subtract similar rational Algebraic expression just combine like terms in the numerator
and copy the common denominator
Example 1:

= Combine numerators and copy the denominator

= Simplify

= Factor

= Cancel like terms

=
Example 2:

Combine numerators and copy the denominator

= Simplify

=
Perform the indicated operation

Activity 4: Add and Subtract

I. Quizizz Drill
Direction: The class will be group into three groups where they need to answer
the following question involving adding and subtracting similar rational
expression, this will be a quiz bee type where the groups will be given 30
seconds and must raise their answers written in their illustration board. (The quiz
is composed of 5 questions) each item is consisting of two points.

II. We can Make it!

Direction: Each group must write their own similar rational expression and try to
combine them through addition or subtraction, the group must at least be able
to make 3 items. (Output will be judged through a rubric)
