The teacher will ask the children to look at her. She will go out the
class, know the door, enter the class, say hello by her hand (without
speaking) … then she will continue doing some actions without spelling
any word. After that, she will ask them: Can you describe the
activities I did? How did you know that I want to drink water? But did
I speak? Did you hear words from me?

Therefore, she will tell them that we can understand some activities
without listening or reading words. And that’s how stories. Some
stories are with words, and others are wordless. But we can understand
and read both stories!

2
Teaching Steps (15 minutes)
Step One:

The teacher will bring two types of stories. And she will ask the
children to compare them. what are the commons? What are the
differences? They will discuss the story elements during the telling
the commons.

In both stories, we see people or animals acting the story. what do we

call them? Can we read a story without characters? Why?

Look, some stories happened at night while others at day. Where each
story occurred? What does this mean? Every story needs a place and a
time. So we have to know where and when this story happened. We call
them “setting” of the story.

Step two:

She will call a child to the board. She will ask him to draw something he
loves. Then she will write under his picture: “this is… I love….” Then she
will say: “look we build a little story.” what did X do? he drew the story.
and what did I do? I wrote under the picture. So what does the story
need? Someone who draw the pictures and someone who writes the
story. we call them illustrator and author.

Step three:

The teacher will bring a puzzle. (story elements puzzle) and she will tell
them. imagine that the story is like a puzzle. It will not be completed
without it’s elements. So we need now to put the elements to build the

3
story. then together they will put the pieces of the puzzle and sum up
the role of each element.

Sessions 3 and 4: (20 mins)

Lead in:

“Today we are going to read a new story! but before I show you the
story, let us watch this video.”

The teacher will play the song of “This is the way we go to school” and
she’ll ask the children to act the verbs. After the song, she’ll ask them:

- What was the song about? What do we do before we go to

school? So what do you think our story will be about?

Step One:

She will show them the pages of the story. then ask:

- What is the type of this story? do you see words?

- Do you remember the elements of the story?
- Who are the characters of this story? let us check!
- Where and when the story is? Let us check!
- Look at the cover page. Where do you think is the author and
illustrator’s names? Then she will tell them the name of the
author and illustrator, and remind them of the role of each one.

Step two

She will ask them: after you’ve seen the pictures of the story, what
do you think the title of the story is? She will listen to their
4
predictions and then tell them that the title of the story is “we go
to school”. After that, she will ask individuals to name the title of
the story.
