Dear Sir/Madam,
Sand filter treatment systems must have an annual inspection & servicing of the sand filter
system and disposal field, an annual water test taken for testing and an assessment of septic
tank and, if required, a three yearly desludge.
This is a reminder from Council that the inspection report and water sample for the septic
tank system located on your property located at 600 Yinnar Road, Yinnar is now due.
A copy of this report must be returned within 60 days with the following information provided
1. The annual water test for the biological oxygen demand (BOD), suspended solids
(SS), to ensure the system is working as approved by the Environment Protection
Authority has not been completed, or a copy of the report has not been submitted to
Council.
The property owner is required to have an annual water sample analysed to ensure
the operation of the treatment system on site is operating according to the conditions
of approval from the Environment Protection Authority.
You may either ask your servicing agent to collect the sample on your behalf and
have this sent to a NATA lab, collect and send the sample to a lab yourself or engage
another septic tank servicing agent to do this on your behalf. Some of the NAT A
analysts that can assist you in having the wastewater tested are listed below:-
(If you would like some contact details of other local licensed plumbers/drainers that
collect samples and send them to analysts on your behalf please contact Council's
Health Services on 03 5128 5613).
2. Have your plumber complete the Sand Filter Assessment Checklist and return it to
Council.
If you would prefer to receive future reminders via email or SMS, please provide the
details to our Health team.
Note: Section 159 (3) Environment Protection Act requires occupier of premises on which
septic tank system is located must maintain it in accordance with the requirements of the
permit issued by the municipal council for that septic tank system. Failure to maintain system
within permit conditions = 10 penalty units (each penalty unit being $192.30).
Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact Health Services on 5128 5613.
Yours sincerely,
