PART I: INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND OF THE COMPANY

Advertisements are a way to promote people, products, services, and brands through

capturing the public’s attention. People use advertisements for different purposes, some for

business, and some for personal reasons.

For instance, the billboards along EDSA aim to make their products or services known to

the general public by posting them on areas with high foot traffic, where people can see and

think about them while stuck in traffic. Some companies rely on advertisements to increase their

brand awareness and sales. Brands like Bench and Penshoppe are known to get popular k-pop or

international artists to boost their sales.

Some use advertisements to show their support to certain people or groups by renting out

advertisement spaces to bring awareness to the people of the upcoming events of their idols.

Elev8 Media is an OOH (out-of-home) advertising company that provides printing,

installation, dismantling, and etc. Their services includes billboards, transit and digital ads, and

among others. They started their operations last January 3, 2007, and have been operating for the

past 16 years, starting with operations as a client-driven strategy and eventually had a

breakthrough that made them operate exclusively outdoor advertisement in Makati City last

2009. Throughout their years of operations, they have expanded their products, services, and

areas such as to Bonifacio Global Center, Aseana City, Parañaque, Taguig, and Bacoor.

PART 2: STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Elev8 Media, a specialized out-of-home (OOH) advertising company, currently faces

a multitude of challenges that have significant implications for its operations and overall

client satisfaction. These challenges manifest in various forms, including unanticipated

delays, untrustworthy vendors, incidents of transport or equipment failures, and

warehousing blunders. Each of these hurdles presents unique obstacles, but they share a

common thread—they are all interconnected through the long lead times they generate.

One of the primary challenges faced by Elev8 Media is the occurrence of

unanticipated delays. Factors such as inclement weather and road congestion frequently

disrupt the smooth execution of advertising initiatives, leading to setbacks in meeting

predetermined deadlines. These delays can cause frustration among clients and hinder the

company's ability to deliver timely and effective campaigns.


In addition to delays, Elev8 Media grapples with the issue of untrustworthy

vendors. The reliance on external providers for various aspects of advertising operations

introduces a level of vulnerability. When vendors fail to deliver on their commitments or

provide subpar services, it not only creates interruptions in the workflow but also

compromises the quality of advertisements produced. The trustworthiness and reliability of

vendors directly impact Elev8 Media's ability to meet client expectations and maintain a

high standard of advertising excellence.

Furthermore, the limitations in transportation and equipment availability pose

significant challenges for Elev8 Media. In an industry where quick turnaround times are

essential, the company's ability to respond to customer demands can be impeded by

inadequate access to transportation services and equipment. This limitation not only affects

the company's agility in executing campaigns but also restricts its ability to scale operations

and meet the evolving needs of clients.

Another aspect where Elev8 Media faces challenges is in its warehousing operations.

Inefficiencies and blunders within the company's warehousing processes can lead to delays

and disruptions in the overall workflow. Time loss due to warehouse machine malfunctions

can severely interrupt operations and production. It might cause order fulfillment delays,

resulting in customer discontent and possibly revenue loss. Effective maintenance practices

and frequent equipment inspections can assist to reduce the impact of these mistakes and

ensure better warehouse operations. These warehousing faults directly impact the

company's operational efficiency and its ability to deliver on time.


It is crucial for Elev8 Media to recognize the interconnected nature of these

challenges through the long lead times they create. To address these concerns, the company

must adopt comprehensive risk management techniques that encompass strategic planning,

contingency measures, and proactive problem-solving. It is imperative for Elev8 Media to

enhance its vendor selection and monitoring procedures to ensure reliable partnerships

and reduce the risk of disruptions. Moreover, the company needs to optimize its warehouse

coordination by implementing efficient inventory management systems, improving storage

practices, and enhancing communication between departments.

By mitigating delays, establishing trust with vendors, minimizing downtime, and

improving warehouse operations, Elev8 Media can enhance its overall efficiency, meet

deadlines consistently, and ensure the utmost satisfaction of its clients. Recognizing the

interconnected nature of these challenges enables the company to develop a holistic

approach to problem-solving, thereby fostering a more resilient and adaptable business

model in the face of industry complexities.

PART 3: MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND MATHEMATICAL APPLICATION

This part presents all the problems indicated in part 2: Statement of the Problem, in

its mathematical form. This aids in visualizing the problems in numerical form in order to

formulate solutions using all the topics that were discussed in DSIOPMA. The researchers

presented four (4) in-depth problems in the Statement of the Problem that the company is

currently experiencing in terms of its operation specifically its lead times. Below is a

detailed explanation of the problem with accompanying numerical data. The ensuing part

will discuss the solutions to these problems that will be enumerated.


A. Unforeseen events that constitute delays.

Natural disasters, regulatory changes, and public health emergencies are some

examples of unforeseen events that can happen within the duration that a company is

operating. These events may lead to significant delays which can interrupt the normal

operation of a company. Elev8 Media, being an advertising and media company, is deeply

affected by these events since it is important for them to make and deliver their goods at

the agreed date. It is not easy to make the materials to use in building billboards and other

types of advertising materials. Hence, the company opts to outsource some of it to lessen

the hassle it takes to make one. Since they outsource their materials, it can cause significant

delays when an unforeseen event happens. Moreover, if the materials itself is not delivered

at the agreed time it will be a domino effect in which it can interrupt the production

process and it can also affect the professional relationship between the company and its

customers.

B. Untrustworthy vendors

Unreliable suppliers can negatively affect an advertising firm in a number of ways

since advertising firms rely on outsourcing talents from different areas. They could provide

subpar work, engage in unethical behavior, or utilize plagiarized material, all of which
might harm the agency's image and result in unhappy clients. This is a major issue since

advertising agencies heavily rely on their image and trustworthiness to get clients. Missed

deadlines might happen when unreliable providers don't stick to the timetables they've

promised, interrupting workflow and delaying clients. Due to the vendor's activities, the

agency's reputation may suffer, which might result in client loss. Dealing with dishonest

vendors demands more time and effort, which results in operational inefficiencies. Unlike

manufacturing businesses, where they have standard requirements and regular inspections

that can help maintain proper products, With advertising agencies or services in general, it

is hard to have a standard for the services given. But a good thing with Elev8 Media Inc.

The complaints and issues revolve entirely around missed deadlines and slow workflow and

have not been involved with major issues such as plagiarism and unethical behavior just to

provide service.

C. Transport or Equipment Downtime (Capacity constraints)

Transport and equipment downtime can have several negative consequences for Elev8

Media. These include:


Campaign execution delays: It can be difficult to get goods to the required places or finish

the necessary installations when transportation equipment or vehicles are not functioning.

Delays in the execution of advertising campaigns may have an adverse effect on customer

satisfaction and even the reputation of the business.

Cost increases: When resources, such as trucks and equipment, are idle, the organization

may incur higher expenditures. The cost of maintenance and repairs, the requirement to

find alternate modes of transportation, or the requirement to rent equipment can all have a

big influence on the budget for the business. They may be required to wait for

transportation or equipment repairs, resulting in lower productivity and overall

operational inefficiencies.

Missed opportunities: If delays in distributing advertising materials are caused by

transportation or equipment failure, the organization may miss out on time-sensitive

opportunities such as events, product launches, or seasonal campaigns. This might lead to

lost revenue and business prospects.

D. Time Loss Due to Warehouse Machine Errors

The given warehouse is filled with different machines that are used to fully make the

operations moving to its best capacity. Machines like the automotive printers and cutters

are normally in use to produce the products that clients have ordered. Unfortunately, there

are times wherein delays are caused due to warehouse errors such as overheating. The

operations of the automotive printers and cutters are 8 hours every Monday through

Friday, relatively within those 8 hours shall also include the repair and waiting time of the

warehouse machines.
