GEOCUBE USER MANUAL

This document aims at describing the different steps to setup a Geocube. This should be the second step
after installing a Geoport (c.f. Geoport User Manual) or a Geocoord (c.f. Geocoord User Manual).

In this document, following topics will be addressed :

I. Connecting a Geocube to a system ............................................................................................ 1

II. Removing a Geocube from a running system ............................................................................. 4
III. Upgrading the firmware ............................................................................................................ 4

I. CONNECTING A GEOCUBE TO A SYSTEM

STEP 1 – Installing Geocubes

Power the Geocube

Power source should typically be 12V DC, although the Geocube will function if the voltage is comprised
between 3.5 V and 20 V.

You can go to Step 2 if you prefer connecting Geocubes one after the other or you can start by powering
all the Geocubes and then connect them collectively in a single step to your project.

STEP 2 – Checking radio (optional)

Access the User Interface of the corresponding project (http address has been sent through mail and your
shipment, along with the serial number of all Geocubes and Geoports/Geocoord in your order). By
default, login is set to kylia and password to kylia (see Geo3 user manual.

Click on the first tab “Geocube network”. If you haven’t yet connected any Geocubes to your project, the
displayed page should look like this :

1
Go to the “Administration” tab and then click on the “process” tab (unless you have defined it otherwise,
login and password for the Administrative section are initially set at kylia/kylia) :

Before connecting all Geocubes to the network, which is a process which lasts several minutes, you might
first want to check that radio communications between your Geocubes and your Geoport/Geocoord are
configured correctly. This operation is entirely optional and you can freely skip to step 3 if you feel
confident radio connections are operational. If you do wish to check connectivity, click on the “Radio
Connection check” button. The process usually last about a minute.

If you are adding a Geocube to an existing project, this operation will not affect any undergoing
calculations.

If any of your Geocubes are missing, check radio connexions are established and relaunch the detection
process.

STEP 3 – Connect Geocubes

2
Once Geocubes are set and powered, you can undergo a complete detection process. To do this, click on
the “Update Network (takes a while…)” button. Your system will now search for all Geocubes within radio
reach of your Geoport/Geocoord and wait for a first position to be computed.

This process will define a initial position for all newly detected Geocube

If you are initializing a new process and your fixed Geocube(s) has been detected through a “Radio
connection check” process (i.e. step 2) it is best to remove it from the system (see Chapter II) and redetect
it with this “Update network” process, since its defined position, which serves as reference, will be more
precise with “Update network” than with “Radio connection check”.

If you are simply adding an additional Geocube to a running system, you should not remove the Geocube,
since the current position of your fixed Geocube serves as reference for the already installed moving
Geocubes. Redetecting it would then result in changing the reference position.

The process can take up to 10/20 minutes to complete.

Again, if you already have a running process and wish to add an extra Geocube to your project, pressing
“Update Network (takes a while…)” will not affect undergoing calculations.

At this stage, click on the “Geocube network” tab, to confirm you have detected all your installed
Geocubes.

If any of your Geocubes are missing, check radio connexions are established and relaunch the detection
process.

STEP 4 – Defining Fixed Geocube position manually (optional)

3
In order for calculations to proceed, one or more Geocubes need to be considered as fixed by the system.
The position of this Geocube will be considered motionless and movements of other Geocubes will be
calculated in relation to this reference. In order for movements to be monitored precisely, fixed
Geocube(s) need therefore to be installed on a ground known to be stable, within a 3km radius of moving
Geocubes.

Precise positioning of fixed point(s) is not required for precise monitoring of moving Geocubes. In a
default mode, system will roughly position the fixed Geocube and monitor movements from there. If a
precise position of the fixed Geocube is required/available, it can be entered using the “Optional manual
exact position setting”. Simply enter the coordinates (lat, long, height) and press “set position”.

STEP 5 – Defining a process

Once all Geocubes are connected to the system (Step 3), you need to define the process, in other words,
tell the system which of the installed Geocubes are fixed, and which are mobile. You will also define at
what frequency precise positions should be calculated (interval should be superior to 10 sec.). To do so,
click on the “(re-) Define process”.

Once all cubes and interval are defined, hit the “set process” button.

If you are just adding a single Geocube to a running system, the settings of running Geocubes should
appear as previously set. Just modify the setting for the new Geocube and press “set process”.

STEP 6 – Launching

Now that all Geocubes are detected, their purpose defined and the frequency of calculations defined,
you can click the “RUN-TD” button, which will launch calculations. System will broadcast operating
process to all Geocubes who will then start sending back their data for calculations to begin.

II. REMOVING A GEOCUBE FROM A RUNNING SYSTEM

Go to the “administration” tab and then to the “process” tab. Under the “Remove unwanted geocubes
in process”, select the Geocube you would like to uninstall and press “remove”

III. UPGRADING THE FIRMWARE

4
Firmware running in the Geocubes are occasionally updated to improve calculation stability,
functionalities or and rapidity. In such a case, you would be advised by our services of such a necessity.

To update, the firmware of a Geocube, go to the “Administration” tab and then to the “reboot” tab.

Select the Geocube which you want to upgrade and click on “flash geocube firmware”.
