Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

in Reading Grade 7

I. Objectives: At the end of the session, the students are able to:
a. Identify the vowels
b. Distinguish between short and long vowel sounds

II. Subject Matter


A. Topic: Short and Long vowel Sounds
B. Reference: Learning Beginning Vowels A, E, I, O, and U worksheet (PDF)

III. Procedure

A. Motivation/Activity
 Ask students to tell you what the vowels of the alphabet are.
 Write the vowels (A, E, I, O, U) on the board.
 Tell students that the vowels have both short and long sounds. Sound out each
short and long vowel sound.
 Ask students for some examples of short vowel words (e.g. “apple” or “cat”)
and long vowel words (e.g. “cake” or “ape”)

B. Presentation
 Play Red Light, Green Light with phrase “A-E-I-O-U”.
