The radome structure is made of fibre composites and coated with antistatic paint. 815 - 2 INSPECTION FOR CONDITION - RADOME 1. Inspect radome (1, figure 815-1) for structural damage. a. Structural damage shall be repaired in accordance with FAA AC 43.13-1A, AIRCARAFT INSPECTION AND REPAIR MANUAL, provided the damage is local. Major damage shall be repaired in co-operation with the manufacturer b. For repair, use glass fibre fabric (CM 727), resin (CM 616) and hardener (CM 617). Refer to maufacturer documentation for mixing ratio of resin and hardener and for curing time. ¢. Touch up surface protection with antistatic paint (CM 461). 2. Check rubber seal (6) for proper bonding and for damage. a. Affix loose rubber seal with silicone adhesive (CM 673). b. Remove damaged rubber seal and adhesive residues. Clean bonding areas with acetone (CM 203) and affix new ruber seal with silicone adhesive (CM 673). 3. Check locking mechanism for damage, security of installation and proper function. a. Replace deformed parts or parts with mechanical damage. b. Tighten loose screws. Replace loose rivets. c. Replace defective locking mechanism. 4, Check airframe mounted locking mechanism for damage and security of installation. If a bolt (10, figure 815-1) is to be replaced, identify the reach of the thread and screw in new bolt to this dimension. CHAPTER 815 Rev. 2 Page 3 (BK800-C-2) MBB HELICOPTERS MAINTENANCE MANUAL MBB - BK 117 815 - 3 REMOVAL - RADOME 1, Disengage turnlock fasteners (9, figure 815-1) with a square drive wrench (1/4 inch). 2. Detach radome; take care not to damage rubber seal (6). 815-4 INSTALLATION - RADOME NOTE Prior to installation of radome make sure that battery is relocated to the rear of the helicopter. (Refer also to chapter 814 AFT BATTERY). 1. Hold radome in installation position. 2. Slide radome on helicopter nose and make sure that pins (2, figure 815-1) move through contact springs (4) without canting. 3. Firmly fasten radome to helicopter nose with turnlock fasteners. If the radome cannot be locked or if it does not fit on the helicopter nose, ad- just bolts (10) as required. 4. Check radome for security of installation and rubber seal (6) for proper sealing. 815-5 Removal-locking mechanism 1. Remove airframe mounted locking mechanism as follows: a. Remove bolts (12, figure 815-1), washers and nuts. b. Take bracket (11) out of support (16). ¢. Drill out rivets of bracket (15) and detach bracket from airframe. d. Unscrew pin (2) and bolt (10) out of bracket (11) or bracket (15) if necessary. 2. Remove locking mechanism from radome as follows: a. Remove bolts (5), doubler, washers and nuts. b. Detach brackets (7 and 13) from radome structure. Remove seal (3) from radome structure. Installation-locking mechanism 1. Install locking mechanism on the airframe as follows: a. b. 2. Install locking mechanism on radome structure as follows: a b. Rev. 2 Rivet bracket (15, figure 815-1) on the airframe. Screw bolt (10) in bracket (15) and adjust as shown in figure 815-1. Insert bracket (11) in support (16) and fasten with bolts (12), washers and nuts. Screw pin (2) and bolt (10) in bracket (11) and adjust as shown in figure 815-1. Fasten turnlock fasteners (9) on brackets (7 and 13) with screws (8) Insert seal (3) in radome structure. Guide turnlock fastener (9) through seal (3), place brackets (7 and 13) on radome structure and fasten with bolts (5), washers and nuts.
